Oh yeah, I can hear my WD SE seek now with the 92mm fan. I want to apologize to everyone whom I told that I cannot hear it seek before. My 60mm fan was too loud then. :D

at least you didn't use a vacuum cleaner (delta Fan 7200rpm) LOUD enough to stop measuring with db units
like what my housemate is using LOL

Pillage ,

Did you ever get the new BIOS? Reseat that SLK again, and maybe reverse the fan...

Keep an eye on temps..

PIC!!! ?

My problem is either bad proc..or something wrong w/ my IHS

Dude...your temps are being read wrong. Not a bad proc or anything..those just arent right. Does the 947 feel warm to the toucH?

yea.. 83C is pretty ridiculous. either you installed the heatsink wrong or your mobo temp sensor is bad

Reseated the HSF, reversed the fan, took off the rear exhaust fan. What else can I do??? I idle at around 57C now. :(

I can't seem to download the new BIOS file as I can't access Asus's FTP servers. :(

Pill,

Looks like when the fan is SUCKING ( blowing away from the HSF ) temps are up to 13C cooler...

BTW, that case isn't THAT congested.

:D

The fan was originally BLOWING onto the HS. I tried reversing it and see what's up but the temps got worse than it blowing onto the HS. I decided to change it back to 1.68v and it's at 52c Idle now. It was 57C idle on 1.78v. I really don't know what else can I do.

hmm..

I really am starting to believe it's related to it being read incorrectly..

Your SLK is a better HSF than my AeroFlow and i am running on a hot day around 49C loaded. ( 1.79V )

I don't know dude. I believe Asus boards do not read higher than what it really is?? If so, would -10C do??

Well if it's not that, and it's not reading for the DIODE ( which would probably be that hot ) then i'm at a loss as well..

Is it stable through Prime 95? If so just forget about it.

It's stable in everything I do including Prime95 and memtest. I went over to amdmb forums and it has been a known issue for quite some time now.

If it has been a known issue, don't worry about it. You, me, and everyone knows that a properly installed slk-900 with a 2500RPM fan or higher is going to provide excellent cooling.

For reference, on my board, the reading from the diode on the Athlon XP chip is 44-46C idle @ 1.7V. This is with an SK-7 and 80MM spinning at 3200RPM.

Yeah glad someone mentioned those fan grills. Sheesh dremel all the way. Just open them up all the way and the front intake as well. Make sure the screws are completely tight on the heatsink and you might want to try reinstall the heatsink with AS3 and make sure you have none of those sticky rubber dots on the underside to stabilize the heatsink, some times those can keep the heatsink from making quality contact.

Here's the problem - now that I saw your pics - :)

The excessive heat from your powersupply is probably being "pulled" down towards your cpu by those two back fans (if they are trying to exhaust, but as you only mounted them on the steel case with those crappy little holes, they're probably doing worse for you than if they weren't even used!

I'd agree with the suggestions of at least cutting out the back plate so the back fans have un-restricted air flow to exhaust the warmer air your case. But again, this will most likely "pull" down heat from your powersupply and cause temps to still be high.

-Edit-

The best way for exhaust fans to create convection and exhaust rising heat, should be mounted above the powersupplies or cutout a blow hole on the top of the case.

It's a clip on hsf and it's on it tight. I was so worried about crushing the core the first time I put it on. The four rubber tabs have to stay there for the peace of my mind.

I do realize that the fan from the PSU is directing warm air towards the sink. I suppose I can change the direction of the air flow but opening the case of the PSU??? Cutting holes in my case is something I'm avoiding as I don't have the tools to do it now. :D

I can touch the HS and put my finger there for prolong times. I guess the board is reading it higher then. :Q
