This is the saddest day of my life. I bought a SLK900 in hoping to cool my Xp1700 better but it seems that the case is limitting the cooling capabilities. It does not have any exhaust holes and I just use double sided tape to STICK 80mm fans on the back of the case. It has some small holes but not your regular exhaust fan hole which permits more air to flow through. :( Oh another note, my temps drop about 10c on the same overclock compared to the old Sk6 I was using.

Side view of the HSF and so called exhaust fan

Top view

Complete view of stuffy case.

holesaw time. :D

I did hit higher than 70C while I was testing the limits on this CPU. It seems that 2.4Ghz is not a problem if only I can get rid of this dumb case.

Yes, dremel time. :D

Is it assembled correctly? Is the fan on the SLK sucking or blowing?

Theraml Compound or Tape?

What about with the side panel off.. You case can't be that small can it!?!?

:)

How would I know if I assembled it correctly?? The fan is blowing. :) AS3 on it. :)

Let me see. I'll go take a pic and you guys see. :D

Side panel is ALREADY off. :D

Why are you O/C'ing in a case with no holes for case fans? Just curious...where on earth did you get a case like that?

Whoa, something is definitely wrong.. Even with horrible case flow you should be able to pull 55C...

It may be reading the diode instead of the socket, which motherboard?!?

Got it from some site 3 years back. I've changed ever single part in the pc since then.

BJC, I doubt it's reading from the Diode. It's a A7V266E.

How's the pic coming..

BIOS update? Could be reading incorrectly...

Is it stable?!

I don't have my digicam with me. I have to wait for my gf to come back which will be in an hour time.

There's a beta BIOS online which will actually read the temps 10C lower than the bios I have now. I'm chugging at a slow 2.35Ghz now without any stability problems. :D

AS3 has a break in period right???

About a week, but nothing that would affect temps anything close to that..

I say go for the BIOS, chances are if it's running stable it's just fine..

AMD states the cores are SAFE until 94C

I hardly see stable overclocks with temps TRULY in the high 60's low 70's...

:D

I would go for that BIOS but it has some issues with the pc. I've pulled out the SLK and refitted it again and the temps are hovering around 53C idle for now. I'm using 1.79v on the Xp1700. Might explain the high temps but not as high as this since I'm on a much better HSF. :)

Something still isn't right..

I am using a Vantec AeroFlow ..

1700+@2.4ghz (12X200) 1.75V (1.79v actual )

I think you would be better off buying a better case. Sorry if that has already been covered; I didn't read all the replies.

I know I'm better off buying a new case but I don't really want to go through all the pains of tearing down one machine to build another. Time is something I don't have these days. :(

It takes less than an hour. I have 2 jobs go to high school and take college classes and have time to tinker with mine almost everyday.

You're still in school.

You don't go out to work in the morn and come back at night with almost no strength left. :)

I appreciate the enthusiastic manner but I'm saving up for something else. :D

wahahah i have a sonata with only 1 case fan, a 120MM exhaust fan plugged into a 7V. gotta love the antec engineers, my system stays nice and cool with an SK-7/Coolermaster LED 80MM combo.

His Temps are not that out of range,

My P4 2.8ghz @ stock gets 83C constant Full Load temps with a SLK-947U + SmartFan 2 @ full speed + AS Ceramique..EVerything is applied properly....

My problem is either bad proc..or something wrong w/ my IHS

[edit] and this is w/ an ambient CASE temp of 16C and mobo Temp of 18C...

Have you ever thought of just taking the side panel off until you get a new case???

Get this case, super good cooling, super good looks, super good price

PLUSVIEW100AMG ATX SOHO File Server

Also just a thought for all those high CPU temps with good case temps. When I first installed my SLK900u I was not happy with the temps I mean my other comp running a AX-7 with less case cooling was about the same peformance. So I was going to reapply the AS3 and decided to double check the screws on the heatsink. I was able to turn them a turn or two. Rebooted and wow , so much better cooling once they were tightened ALL the way down.

Whoa, whoa, whoa...

That's definitely being read incorrectly or you P4 is throttled down to about 500mhz...

YOu have something either not connected properly, or not plugged in ( fan )

It's at a stock 2.8ghz? You would be running 35-37C LOADED

The side panel has been off ever since I started overclocking 3 years ago. It's the messy case and bad air flow. :D
