Some speeds are in stock. (I work for a large AMD disty)

Don't even have a PN (yet) on the alleged Socket939 Semprons.

When will they come out in 939! I wonder what effect Dual Channel will have on Semprons, since the Extra bandwith is supposed to help because they only have 256 MB of cache (the good ones btw).

A s939 64bit Sempron would rock the house. All they might want to add after that is CnQ as a nice addition.

I think the higher end semprons have CnQ dont they? I would love a S939 sempron to build a budget box for my bro, 64bit wouldnt matter, but being able to upgrade it down the road with a cheap dual core cpu would be nice.

Cool & quiet is enabled on semprons 3000+ and up.

yes a socket 939 would be perfect,it would allow me to jump to socket 939 and then later save up for a X2.

Doh, that's right! I had completely forgotten since I had only used 2800+'s.

I really don't understand why the new 64bit Semprons were not S939. I really don't understand it at all. They are suppose to be phasing out the S754 anyways so why not start now. Push everyone to S939 which will have a much much longer shelf life. S939 will still be around, though relegated to low end next year even though Socket M2 will be out while S754 will be phased out roughly the end of this year.

A S939 Sempron coupled with the Radeon XPRESS chipset (this is not available in S754 sadly) would make a killer low end computer for a lot of folks. It would have the power to do light gaming, more than enough power for the average household AND it would be upgradable to X2 dual cores and the latest video cards with it's PCI-Express support. A cheap low end computer that can grow with 90% of the users needs. AFAIK that's a dream system and setup for new users or those looking for a cheap upgrade and don't need most of the fancy bells and whistles just yet.

I don't know either. It also sounds like they have stopped making the Newcastle chips..... So the stock of AMD 64s in 754 is final. No more will be made. All future ones will be semprons...

ZZF has several in stock already. I'm a little confused, though... They're calling the 2800+ a 64-bit Sempron, but Tom's article says that the 3400+ is the only Sempron with 64-bit instructions "for now."

akugami & Hacp: AMD is still making Semprons for totally outdated Socket A boards because you can get a good Socket A board for $40. A 939 board costs $80 and most of them are over $100. The Sempron is a budget chip line. Most models are under $100. You don't make a budget chip that requires the most expensive socket.

I was getting all excited for nothing because I thought the 3400+ was going to be for socket 939. Actually, I did see it in their roadmap. And it's supposed to come out shortly.
But, I find they do everything sort of screwed up. I mean, by the time you might be able to afford a dual core to replace that Sempron, the socket M2 motherboards and CPUs might be inexpensive enough for you to want that instead. It's real odd.

The real question is, if they plan on coming out with a Sempron 3700+ next year, how in the world will they justify the high prices for all their other CPUs? Their roadmap doesn't show any huge speed increases. I'm very suspicious of that.

I went ahead and ordered an XP 3200+ to replace my Duron 1.8 GHz because I decided if they're going to play their cards like that, I'm better off buying a faster CPU right now then waiting two years to upgrade instead of one year.

Besides, all the 64 bit and multi-core (multi-threaded) software will only be widely available in two years anyway.

Wow tanks for the ZZF tip. Its the first BX Sempron I have seen! The rest have been BA semprons (based on winny).
