What does that moderator message mean? If they wanted to end the discussion, why not just remove the post? What is a "PM limit"? And why is this discussion need to end?

Gillbot,

I would recommend you remove that from your signature so that some of us, um, don't get confused

To answer your question, you should just check out the various hardware companies. Most 1U and 2U cases are going to be problematic because they will require either a PCI riser card or low-profile PCI cards. AGP cards won't fit, etc. 3U is about the same height as a regular PC and should work fine for most things. Enlight has a large selection of rack-mount cases. Check out NewEgg, MWave and RackMountPro for various selections, they're usually quite explicit about what you can fit in there. The only problem is that the cases tend to be fairly expensive.

i have mentioned before that mod quotes in signatures can be confusing but they allow it.

Thanks for the case info, the only card i have in the system is the soundcard and a pci video but both can be removed if needed, they are not essential. The sound is optional and the vid i have installed is a 2nd card. With a right angle PCI adapter i shouldn't have a problem but i was concerned with the drives and etc.

Thanks,
Jim

In terms of drives, you should have plenty of space, just not much available externally. Once again, I highly recommend you look at the various reseller Web sites and they'll show you EXACTLY what you can fit. If you have a high number of drives, e.g. you're running RAID 0+1 or RAID 5, then you won't be able to fit them all in a 1 or 2U. Even a 4U unit has limited space. But if you just need HDD, CD-ROM and FDD, you'll be fine.

After some further research on the 2U case, i think it will all fit. The one i was looking at will hold a Standard ATX mobo (13"x12"), Floppy, CD-ROM and two IDE drives. I don't NEED any pci cards as everything is integrated onto the Asus CUR-DLS mobo except for sound, which i can live without . Even though i could get a right angle PCI card adapter and it would fit as well. The case included a 300W psu as well.

Sounds like a winner. Let us know how it goes =)

P.S. I'm using a 4U case for my system, and it looks good and fits everything just fine.
