64 mobile advantages?

Are there really any advanteages of the the Athlon 64 mobile over the standard Athlon 64's? The only difference as fas as I can tell is the lack of a heatspreader over the core. Does the heatspreader provide for better cooling? I am thinking of using a thermalright 948U so wouldn't the copper direct to the core be better for cooling?

People have gotten better overclocks on the A64 after popping off the heat spreader. However, since they dont have the "feet" like AXPs, I would imagine they may crack easily if mishandled.

You also need to mod the heatsink for that as socket 754 does not allow easy handling as the old 460 socket. Pretty much a bad idea unless you know what you are doing.

There's no such amimal right now.. Perhaps you mean the desk top replacements? Well those arn't moblies and are indentical to thier desktop counters only lacking a heat spreader.

When and if the real moblies come to pass they will be the sh1t. .1 vcore lower operating at desktop speed meaning like with the XP mobiles they are the creme de la creme and are bascially the top chips sold at a discount and superfcail lower PR rating. I seriously doubt the moblie A64 will ever come.

The mobile's are supposedly available from newegg here?

Yea, those are the desktop replacements. (DTRs) They are the exact same specs as the standard, just without the heat spreader.

However, it does look like amd has shipped true mobiles that run at 25 % less wattage than the standards and have a full 1M level 2 cache. This means that they are the same frequency at 3200+, but lower at 3000+ and 2800+ but with the bigger cache. We will see when they can actually be obtained.
