Smartmedia cards have no choice but to go down in price over time. They're not like regular system memory where supply/demand actually matter. And it's also the largest and 'dumbest' memory storage device at this time. Wait a few more months, these things will show up as free AR with probly the 16mb and 32mb showing up first.
