It's oddly amusing, how good of a bet the OP has made all the way back in August
OK, did I miss it ? did AMD give a price on it ?I was really close, and to be honest its a real steal when you really think about the amount of performance on that CPU
Yep, $3990 for TR3990X.OK, did I miss it ? did AMD give a price on it ?
Available Feb 2020 ? Crap, there goes the budget..... I have 64 cores of EPYC, series 7001 (way slower than rome) And I have $4000 in the box. So of course I have to get this one......One CPU To Rule them ALL..!

I am not sure what you do for a living but I truly envy you..BTW 3950x on the way tomorrow.....
I am retired from a very large company where I worked in IT.I am not sure what you do for a living but I truly envy you..
It starts to seem that the 48 core is not coming at all? 3990X shipping in february is pretty late to the game and I cannot imagine anything else coming even later than this.
Whether the 48 core comes or not is debatable (there are HWinfo leaks saying it would come), but why on Earth would the 3990X be late to the game? Not just Intel doesn't even endanger the 3970X at all, but they won't even have anything for probably more than a year that would come even remotely close to the 3990X.It starts to seem that the 48 core is not coming at all? 3990X shipping in february is pretty late to the game and I cannot imagine anything else coming even later than this.
You can bet your whole fortune that the next threadripper does not come in half a year. A year _at the earliest_3990X is late to the game because it comes just a half year before its successor, and just weeks (?) before some rumors about how wonderful the sucessor is going to be will start to emerge.
If 3980W was coming, why not to announce it in this presentation? What better time for that could you imagine???
It looks to me amd have redefined the hedt market. As i recall the 3990 is about twice as expensive as a 10c broadwell. The price is actually quite good. Much better than i feared!
Lucky for us the entire lineup isn't prized by the model name. Just Imagine R5 3600X going for $3600![]()
Why is Intel not bleeding at every joint ?

IMO slightly disingenuous to leave HEDT parts off the comparison here... i.e. 9980XE / 10980XE, though it still loses to the 3950X which is $250 cheaper. This thread need this slide from the CES presentation (the one from the slide deck is not as efficient due to the lack of three screens):

9900KS was only used for comparison with 3950X.IMO slightly disingenuous to leave HEDT parts off the comparison here... i.e. 9980XE / 10980XE ...
Our buddy Piednoel says this CPU shows "terrible architecture scaling", because the 50% additional cores (at lower clocks same TDP) scales only 48%.
Giving the benefit of the doubt, is he right?
