Scroll down to the LSI Logic section on the Hypermicro's SCSI host adapter page

For your SCSI users out there, why pay more for Tekram and a lot more for Adaptec? Make sure to order by phone and mention overclockers.com or storagereview.com for a free UPS ground shipping.

LSI Logic is THE SCSI standard. Their cards are supported by all the modern OS for PC & Mac. The reason why you don't hear much about LSI Logic is because they don't do retail. Their cards are mostly for OEM server equipments but Takram and ATTO have been using a lot of LSI Logic SCSI chipset. Adaptec is not even come close and you pay for the Adaptec name.

I have 2 Symbios (the LSI Logic brand) SCSI cards and an ATTO SCSI card that uses LSI Logic chipset. All of them work great for years now.

Hypermicro is very good company by the way. Me and the place that I work for only buy our SCSI gears from them.

This is a pretty good deal if you have a mainboard with 64-bit PCI slots. The SYM21040 for $145 with cables is attractive.

Those cards will work on 32 bit PCI slots. You just won't get the beneifit of the transfer rate of the 64 bit slot.

If you need an internal IDC50(M) connector, the Adaptec AHA-2930U2 is a better choice at $99 bare.

Tri- the LSI Logic SYM21040 at $109 is a far better deal compared to the 2930U2. No only is it twice as fast, but dual channels, and the internal IDC50 connector. That alot for $10 difference.

Also, since we are being picky, unless you plan to bite and chew your card in 64 little chunks, you should probably change the title to reflect the fact that the cards are 64bit.

Sorry. Got my Adaptec 29160N card for only $97.00. I don't know of any place that can beat that price. And besides, I only have one SCSI device for it and it's only my 15,000rpm hard drive. I don't use it for anything else. But I might get some SCSI DVD/CD-ROM drives though. Come to think of it, I don't seem to like IDE anymore. Seems a bit too slow.

I have ordered from HyperMicro before. To get free shipping all I did was enter "Free Shipping from StorageReview" in the "Your Comments/misc. info" box. My submitted order and confirmation email did not reflect the free shipping, but my order total was correct on my receipt and my cc was charged the correct amount. They shipped it out fast too. Very happy :D

Thanks for the post. The site also has some nice prices on (some are refurbished) SCSI CD and DVD-ROM drives in their "Surplus" section.

Just got the $79 U160 card in on Friday and installed it on one of my 2K boxes. Interesting card, it appears to be the same card as the $109 version only missing the second internal 68-pin and 50-pin connectors. I think this card can be modded to the dual channel version. Don't know that it would be worth the effort to do it though. Reason being is that when the bios loads for the card it sees both channels, also 2K needs drivers for both. Has the knock-outs for both internal connectors, they just aren't there. Anyway, just thought I'd pass along the info. You'll also need to load the drivers on a floppy for 2K for a fresh install, it doesn't have them built in.

I dunno about LSI. I had an old SCSI-2 card that had LSI chipset on it, gave me all sorts of problems. Always thought it was something wrong with my PC. Swapped out for an Adaptec 2940 and all my probs went away, go figure. Sure it's a nice price but look around hard enough in FS/FT and you can score a 29160 for roughly the same price.

Ok, it's confirmed by DgtlArts that these cards will work on 66mhz 64 bit PCI slots. The card fits in the 66mhz PCI slot because there's an extra notch on the front part of the pin area. The dual channel version works fine with DgtlArts' new Tyan Tiger MPX motherboard.
