64 bit PCI vs PCI-X

Folks are confusing 64 bit PCI with PCI-X. These are two different breeds! There were NO PCI-X slots on 761 based systems. 64 bit 32/66 MHz is *NOT* PCI-X.

what is the diff between 64 bit PCi and PCI-X? i know PCI-X can go up to 133mhz (64bit), but is there any other differences?

He's not right. There is 64-bit 66MHz PCI-X. There are no 32 bit or 33MHz versions though. PCI-X allows for more flexibility in board design for manufacturers (more slots, different frequencies) as well as other bus enhancements. For the end-user there is no real difference between 64-bit 66MHz PCI-X and "standard" 64-bit 66MHz PCI.

This is wrong!

I searched on PCI-X and this thread came up. The original poster was right to warn people. There is a major difference in PCI-X and 64-bit 33/66Mhz PCI2.2. A PCI-X card WILL NOT FIT in an old 64bit PCI slot. They are NOT COMPATABLE.

I have a PCI-X RAID card in front of me and its slot connector is configured differently than a PCI slot. You cannot plug a PCI-X raid card into an older Intel or AMD (Athlon MP) system that only has 64-bit PCI.
