I am trying to install Linux on an A64 box (Winchester 3200+ on EP-9NDA3J). Debian starts to load but doesn't make it to the beginning of the installation. I tried the Ubuntu live and it gets as far as the first GUI screen and stops.
Ubuntu doesn't seem to work so far. I downloaded the version for A64's and during the install a line flashed by that said something like "Error: A64 unrecognized"
OK, I didn't realize you had to have a separate version. Just got it installed, seems to be fully functional, found all my hardware without my intervention. Cool.

The i386 version will work fine on AMD-64 CPU's, it just won't use their 64 bit capabilities, but rather treat it like an IA-32 CPU, same as when you load a "regular" WinXP/2K on an A64.
