64-bit and 128-bit encryption

If the Wireless Gateway/Router/AP is 128-bit encryption, and the PC Card is only 64-bit, what's the security protection?

 
It's a little different. The card is 64 bit, but that's the data throughput and not the encryption level. They are two totally different things. 🙂
 
what kind of card do you have that is 64 bit PCI. Normaly people who would have motherboards that support that would know the that 128 bit encryption is different that the 64 bit PCI bus

If the wireless card is only 40WEP (64bits encryption, like the Orinoco Silver). The connection will use 64bits encryption.

Always what is the lowest, otherwise the card will not decipher the code.

the guy is talking about his wep encryption. Not how many bits his pci slot is.

Your gonna have to set your router or access point to 64 bit. Because if its set to 128 bit encryption your key will bet for 128 bit encryption and your pc card will not be able to connect.
 
Yes you'll have to use 64-bit WEP.

Mind you, many security experts think of WEP as a non-security protocol.

If you're honestly worried about wireless network security, disable WEP and set up a VPN instead. On that note, I'd like to know about free (speech or beer) IPsec implementations for Winblows operating systems.
