64-4000+

Probably won't. You see, the A64 4000+ is essentially a locked FX-53. Its the same ClawHammer core, same speed, 1MB L2 cache, the whole thing. The only thing thats different is the name 😛 (duh!), and the multiplyer is locked.

It depends on if you want to OC or not. If not, then get the 4000+, as it is essentially an FX, as I said. If you want to OC. then get a 90nm 3500+, as it should overclock past 2.4GHz, and past a 4000+ (if you're lucky), besides, its cheaper 😀 .

IIRC, the 4200+ will be released alongside the FX-57, with SSOI (Strained Silicon On Insulator), along with SSE3. With SSOI, that should make for one good OCer, but only time will tell.

been wanting to build my new pc. couldnt decided between the 4000+ or the fx-55!
read that the 4000+ was a fx-53 (with the locked clocks) and want go with the 4000+.
also saving 250 bucks wich could go towards an extra 2 gigs of ram. many peps say to go with the lower chips (3200+ - 3500). want the best overall system not the most exspensive. any ideas?

here is my thaughts...

4000+
therematake xaser 111
enermax 485 watt p-s
msi neo4 platinum sli
2 gigs ocz ram
250g maxtor 16mb@7200
and 850xt palatium

i havent done much in over clocking. little gun shy i guess. fried my last pc on my fist attempt. dont know why or what i did, so i want the best up front and maybe tweak it a little.

how did you fry it and what kind of computer was it?

i followed a friends advive and changed all kinds of things in the bios. cant remember what exactly what i changed (been almost 11 months), but its never worked right sence. he totally didnt know what he was doing and nor did i. it locked up on me and would not reboot. i sent it to a local pc shop and when i got it back its been really slow to boot.
went into msconfig and shut every thing off and still takes 4 min to boot xp home on a 2800+(socket a) with a gig of hyperx ram.

O YEAH! i did diable both the onboard viedo and sound.
so i could use my new ones!!

sandrasoft tells me my hdd or idee conroller is below averge too!!

have a seagate 120g@ 5400 and a maxtor ulta 133 120g @7200 hard drives.
ive been running only the maxtor and the seagate is just inthere unplugged.

They should release A64 4000+ on 90nm sometime between April 4th and Apr 15th of 2005. Venice/SanDiego

It will have 1mb cache and be essentially called SanDiego core. It will have SSE3 instructions (little use), and a fixed memory controller that will allow to run 4 single bank memory sticks at 1T timings (good increase of speed vs. 2T). Its most important "feature" is higher level of overclocking. The 3800+ Venice overclocked to 2880 mhz which is very hard to achieve for any winchester core right now.
