In an effort to promote voting rights across the country is pointed out the granddaughter of Martin Luther King has less rights today then when she was born. Republicans around the country are engaged in voter suppression and dilution of black political power in various. They managed to get the pre-clearance portion of the 65 Voting Rights Act stricken and have since moved to pass laws making it harder to vote. We've been going backwards since Obama was elected. My theory, it's a direct revolt because the country elected its first black President.

“Our daughter, who is the only grandchild of Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King, when you think about that, she and her peers are literally sitting with fewer rights than the day that they were born. This generation, they lost rights,” said Arndrea Waters King, the president of the Drum Major Institute and daughter of MLK.

Republicans were successful in removing preclearance from the 65 VRA. Before states changed rules for voting they had to get advance permission so disparate effects can be investigated.

Once that was gone there was a red wave of voting changes by Republican states.

Even today states like Alabama when ordered by SCOTUS to create a second black district court was ignored.
