60Hz is not enough... 85Hz may not be either!

Doesn't running a high refresh rate shorten the life of your monitor? Especially when combined with high resolution? Guess it doesn't matter for me anyway since I run at 60Hz and have never been bothered by it. ^^

Shorten the life of your monitor from 6-7 years or more to 5-6 years or more...vs. doing damage to your health

You only have one set of eyes...you can buy another monitor :)

to me anything 85hz or better, but anything 75hz or better is Okay on the eyes. But I see people that cant stand lower then 100hz+

Now I know I'm not a freak. Occasionally I notice slight flickering on my monitor at 85 hz (the hightest mine can do at 1024x768). I know it's a different concept, but sometimes movie theatre projection drives me nuts. I don't know if it's the projector shaking or the low fps. I'm always the only one that notices that kind of thing.

When I'm tired or walking I can see flickering BAD at even 85. if I'm tired and see a monitor out of the cornor of my eyes it is excrutiating because I see every single flicker... and when I'm walking I can see flicker up to some ungodly level because of my torn retina... the joys of being a defective teen ;)

He's about half (well, slightly lower) right about the monitor and tv thing. Typically, the frequency of the noise emmited by a monitor speciifcally is above what a typical male can hear. In fact, it's right on the brink of what the typical female can hear. If you can hear the squeal, it likely means not so much that you have great hearing, but that you have a wider range of frequency and thus have a reduced chance of lose of hearing or deafness later in life from old age. Congrats :D

I hardly notice a difference between 85Hz and 100Hz, although it is definitely there. I can't see 120Hz being much better, but I have never tried it and could be pleasantly surprised. There is quite a difference once the refresh rate drops below 85Hz. 75Hz starts to get to me after a while, but it does take an extremely long session of computer usage.

As a side note, I was forced to take driving school to get my driver's license. I was told, in class, that each eye captures frames individually at a rate of 30-40 frames per second. That's another reason that makes me think 85Hz is around where the threshold is.

I have an older 15" CRT, sometimes it emits these excruciatingly high pitched noise....i have to turn it off because it bugs me so much. My newer CRT makes some sound but its not as bad, but I can hear it if nothing else in the room is making any noise.

yup, i don't know how people with cheap systems or incompetence stand 60hz. its like they think thats the way it should be:p its an instant headache for me. 100hz is nice though.

I never paid too much attention to it. Set a 19in here at work to 1280x1027, and I can see flicker no matter what the refresh rate. May not be able to notice at 100Hz but the monitor won't support it. Guess I'll have to wait until I get home to try.
