60gb Ipod Video... I hate Macs

Why on earth do they want you to convert every little video you have to be able to play on your ipod. Isn't adding support for avi mpg and other formats more beneficial and would be easier than having your customers go on a frustrated journey.

Is there a piece of software for new ipods that allows simple video playback rather than exporting video through quicktime pro?

I wouldn't have gotten an ipod if I had to buy it myself but my filthy rich grandma said I could get w/e I wanted so I chose an ipod.

Different strokes for different folks. People should just pick the player that works best for them. I have an ipod and, despite some tradeoffs when compared to other music players, I wouldn't switch for the life of me. Sure, it doesn't have the "best" sound quality, but I listened to compressed audio anyway. Sure, it only limits you to one music store, but the itunes store is the smoothest I've seen. If you don't like it, then find something you do like. Anyone that expects every product to cater to their every whim is being naive. Just because it doesn't suit you doesn't mean you should neccesarily bash it and the rest of that company's products. btw, I'm a pc user.

Almost all of you have missed the main point of this thread. He's talking about IPOD's support for various video formats. You can't just plop an AVI onto the IPOD (I assume), it has to convert it first.

By the way, don't tsay "Why would you ever watch video on an ipod?" unitl you've seen Family Guy on it.

The plan isn't for people to put their video on their Ipod, the plan is for "consumers" to "licence" "content" to "enable their Ipod media experience".

Ha, nope. As a mac hater i feel obliged to reply. Crashes, speed, why cant it "remember" where i had that window at that size last time i used that app, why does it randomly resize the windows for "finder," why doesnt "finder" remember my folder settings, why do i have subfolders open that i never touch, why does it take so long for folders to open on an "ultra-high end" server at 100MB (my home, windows 1MB connection does better), and this is all intrinsic OSX carp. Dont even get me started on how common apps work in that environment. Fortunately, i have free reign to "telecommute."

This may come from Apple's idea how you should handle this stuff, but consider this also: MP3-players use power-saving processors with limited capacities (aren't there cheap players that can't fast-forward or rewind in VBR tracks?). I think a skillful user complaining about lack of format support is less bad for Apple than Joe Average wondering why his High Definition movie drops frames on his iPod.

there IS fast forward/rewind on it.....just hold the previous track or next track buttons down.

-Since when does Windows not crash more than Macs?

-Mine is always the same, I duno what you're doing to screw that up...
-It doesn't randomly resize them, it has them at the same size as the last time you used it.
-Subfolders open that you never touch? What.... ?
-Upload =/= download, duh.

I don't know what you're doing to screw yourself over when using OSX, but you're doing it pretty well.

BTW, I'm on my PC right now, but could slide my chair over a foot to the left and I'll be looking at my iMac G5.
