This may be a repost, but I think this a great deal and may be worth repeating...

Slickdeals.net hard drive plan...

Looks like a very sweet deal... I followed their steps and the deal worked out at Dell.com. I didn't pull the trigger hoping someone could confirm what brand hdd's Dell relabels?!? They're guessing Maxtor or WD...

You don't have to take a 10/100 NIC, but you need something to get the initial value over $150 (usb adaptors, cables, blah blah blah, lots of cheap stuff to choose from).

The best part is... NO REBATES!!

This is a repost, but that doesn't bother me.

Two points:
1. I ordered a few days ago. They originally projected shipping on 1/2, they now project shipping on 1/9.
2. The general consensus on the other string was that Dell shipped mostly WD drives, but it seemed to have been based mostly on prior experience with 40G HDs from Dell. One person noted that the specs for this HD on the Dell web page exactly match the specs of the Maxtor DiamondMax and do not match the specs for the 60G offerings from WD or IBM. No one followed up on that lead, near as I can tell.

did the same deal 2 days ago. didnt want gamepad previously mentioned. could use the extra nic.

est. ship date jan. 03....

Whether it's a WD or a Maxtor, they're both good drives anyway, right? (I recently got a 80GB WD with last week's OM deal cpn & $80 rebate--no experience with maxtor but heard good things.)

Does anyone know what the warranty is on these drives? I've read in the past that it was either a Dell 1 yr warranty or that it was 3 yrs through the manufacturer, anyone ever find out the official word on that?

Well, for this price I couldn't refuse. Time to upgrade the ole' Maxtor 40 gig to this baby.
Then to the For Sale forum to unload the Maxtor.

Happy New Year to All....
