60GB 7200RPM Hard Drive $50 after $60MIR

CompUSA B&M have a 60GB 7200rpm hard drive (probably Maxtor) for $110 (+tax) less a $60MIR. Starts Sunday 28th. Thanks to Fiend for his scans.
 
How would one verifiy that this HDD is in fact a Maxtor drive? Would the label on the drive itself state Maxtor and the model number? This would be a hot deal if they are Maxtor's!

I will drive up to CompUSA this Sunday.

Going to get the Hard Drive for $50 AR, then the Santa Cruz soundcard with Logitech Z540 speakers for $80 (instant), and 256MB DDR for $30 AR. Hopefully I will have some money left to get some fuel for he way back. 😉

The back of the box will say they are Maxtor's plus the drive itself is labeled Maxtor.

okay, hopefully that's true, last time i wanted to get a compusa drive it was 4800rpm (yes for a 3.5" hd)!!! i don't know what brand but, it surely sucked. and $60 in *compusa* rebates isn't so hot either... anyone know where the rebates go?
 
Maxtor warranties these as if they are their own. because, in effect, they are. Removing it from it's Compusa box shows just a Maxtor hard drive. and i recently had one fail on me, and maxtor backed it up. no biggy.

as for reliability. It's pretty much touch and go. i have a 45 gig 7200 rpm maxtor in my freebsd machine that's been in there since 2 christmas's ago and it's still running strong 24/7. same goes for my xp machine (80 gigger). however, my file server has an hd going on it a lot... kind of annoying, the data is ok, it just developes problems.

CompUSA branded drives are actually Maxtor drives. I have owned several and looked at several others and they have always been Maxtor drives.

As far as reliability/quality... I have never had a problem with a Maxtor drive. I have had Western Digital, Quantum, Seagate and IBM drives fail on me in the past. Just keep in mind that as safe estimate on the lifespan of a hard drive is about 5-6 years. After that you are just tempting fate.

In reference to the comment above regarding 'I like IBM drives'. In the past IBM has made some good stuff, and as far as corporate decisions would be concerned, that is what you buy. However, in the last year or so they have had some problems with their drives, including recalling some I believe.


Regardless this is a great deal, and my brother needs a new drive, so he will be headed to my local CompUSA tomorrow to get in on one of these.
 
Compusa part number in the ad is 290252. Linked Actually says Diamondmax. I can't find this mfg part # on Maxtor's site: L06J060G I assume its a Diamondmax plus 60 ata100 drive.
 
w00t, got a D740X Quiet Drive. I believe the only Maxtors that are ATA133 are the D740Xs and it said ATA133 on the label. Rebate is through new rochelle so i only pressed my luck with 1
