I dunno.. They are expensive yet and I'm not sure media is all that cheap yet. I have a tape drive and it works fine, but can't stand to have it run while I'm working. I set it up to back up stuff overnight and it works fine. It's slow as mollassis though.

Another option is to use the backup software with a cd rom. It may take more cd rom's, but it's a lot cheaper right now. When you can get cdr's for as little as .10 and burners for free after MIR, that's a good deal.

OTOH.. If you have the money, why not?

well i considered tape but it is slow, i thought DVD would be nice to burn files to like a cd-rom (if possible) that way i have a 4GB limit or so instead of 600-700MB

C.Net just recently put up a dvd-ram duel...not the exact drive your looking at but a similar one made by panasonic against a toshiba dvd-ram drive...

If it's only for backup, I guess it's OK, but I'd go with DVD-RW. Once DVD-RW becomes more mainstream, DVD-RAM will disappear...
