600m, trying to setup XP/2000 dual boot... trying the operative word here!

I need 2000 due to a certain app I run for work, and would like XP for my own "stuff".

60gb drive. I formatted the drive, created the first partition of 15gb, installed 2000 on that, then created another partition of 45gb, installed XP on that.

I can boot into either OS, but I can see both drive partitions (C & E drives). My CD drive shows up as D. Why is that? Anything I should of done different? I would really prefer XP on C, 2000 on D, and E being my CDRW drive, and to NOT be able to see the other OS's drive!

Also, when in XP, I attempt to install something, it defaults to C: which is corresponds to the Windows 2000 partition.

It was mentioned the easiest way to accomplish what I want is to use Partition Magic... anybody second that?

Did you initiate the XP installation by doubleclicking the CDROM from within Win2000? IIRC, it then prompts you to begin full/partial XP install.

If so, instead try initiating a new XP installation by booting from the CD.

Sure, reinstalling XP can be a pain, but don't recommend just changing the drive letters using Partition Magic/Disk Management/etc.
In my experience, it can confuse system files and lead to blue screens on startup or runtime muckups.

Each OS was installed by booting from its own CD.

The thing I want most is for 2k to only see C: and XP to only see D: drive letters.

This SQL based app does a software/hardware check before installing... it won't even install on XP... absolutely requires 2000.
