I just ran through this on the dslreports forum. Anybody else heard of this deal? I know there's the SBC plan for 26$ flat for one year but this one carries 4x the speed of dl and upload for a little over 2x the price. Normal price for this package is 130$/month (told by dslextreme rep).

check it out on DSL EXTREME.

ps: did a search for DSLextreme and got no results and hope this isn't a repost.

edit: There's a set of very stringent rules to this plan. Your phone # must not change, can't move the plan, can't switch the original number to another if you move, and you must preorder before 2/2/04.

update:Sonic.net is also offering this same plan in the CA Bay Area for 44.95$/month for one year.

Yea according to dslreports I'm 3630 ft away from the CO and qualify for services ranging from SBC and Verizon to Worldcom... *crosses fingers* for the 6Mbps/608kbps deal.

Here is the forum for dslextreme on dslreports: DSL EXTREME FORUM

Dunno about the trial period. It seems they are using the 6Mbps/384 plan from SBC and discounting it for this promotion. I think there's a 99$ similar plan on sbc's dsl services so a savings of 30$.

SBC's Expert Plus DSL package

*note 99$ is for one year and then 140$ afterwards.

Promo says it's good for the first 1000 customers. Anybody know if they've gotten 1000 customers on this deal yet?

People have hinted that SBC will lower their price.... as mentioned on dslreports. I'm guessing around 2/2 when dslextreme's promo ends.

It mentions 1500-6000/384-608kbps Promotional Package so there's no guarantee that you do get 6000/608kbps.. the closer to the central office, the higher of couse.. so this is yet another YMMV :p

wow... sweet. I'm currently on a 1.5Mbps/768Kbps + 5 static IP DSL service ($40/m). Got a good 6 months before I can take this deal. By then it'll be over. :(

i wonder if my distance around 3-4k ft is good enough for the speed. :)

edit: currently on a 1.5/768 plan but even at 3-4k away from the CO I only get around 1280/608 speeds :(

Only for SBC customer, not verizon. In the city I lived, only several block is verizon's area, I am one of that.

Nope, they also serve Verizon area. I had DSL extreme few years ago, it was good, but I see a lot of bad review in the recent years and don't know how good they are now.

Thanks for the heads up. I signed up for the package on my other phone line. Hope it works out. If it sucks there's the 250$ termination fee. :( But if it's good then I save over 30-70$/month over the standard plan.

I did read the thread over in the dsl extreme forum and they said the promotion would last till 3/31/04.

That is correct. This is a limited time promotion that must remain at the same location. We would be able to move the connection but you may not be able to get the promo rate if the promo is not currently running at that time. The promo is currently set for a limited time until 03/31/04.

As it states in the special requirements for that package:

"If you are still under a one year contract and there is a change in phone service you will have the choice of selecting any package offered in your area and completing the contract commitment at that package's then current month to month rate."

Thanks,
George

I have two lines from DSLX (one in the Bay Area and one in Southern California -- Bay Area one is 1.5/256 [soon to be 6/608], SoCal one is 1.5/128) -- both lines are great. Good for gamers.

The max on this plan is 8000', so you should be more than fine.

hmm I entered my phone#/address and they just showed "SBC" which included just the normal speed plans. does that mean "extreme" isn't available at mhy location, or is there another place on the site about "extreme"?

SBC is going to lower their prices in 2 weeks. Just sit back and wait and by direct from them (which will be cheaper)
