I have a 51" Samsung Plasma that I got a smokin deal on after Christmas last year, its a great television, just needs some calibration to look its best. It makes my LCD look like crap under the right lighting conditions, the colors on it are ridiculously good.

I love my 58" Samsung 3D plasma I bought two years ago.

No issues at all with it. Since then, I've integrated everything in the house with a media server (Linux Kubuntu running TVMobili), putting Samsung BD Players on the other TVs (we also got one with the Plasma, but it is hardly used, since the TV is smart enough.)

Still an incredible picture. It impresses everybody who sees it, even if they have their own big screen LED or DLP TVs.

yah dude plasma's always seemed to impress me when I'd walk past all the TV's when I worked at circuit city, then again that was over 5 years ago... I hope mine lasts longer than 5 years.. realistically I'd like it to last 7 but whatevs

Just want to throw another +1 at Samsung's plasmas. I've had a 50" for 2 years and it gets a ton of use. Great TV.

I have 3 Samsung's. Love them.
That being said, avoid this model. I bought it and 13 months in the screen blew up. Spider webbed in 3 different places. When trying to get info on it I found it was very common on this one..

I have a 50" Panasonic Plasma that will be 7 years old come Black Friday. It's 720p but still looks fabulous.

Sounds like a great deal. Still on sale today (at least via the link in the OP) despite the OP's "ends tonight."

I wonder what Black Friday will bring as far as deals on 60" plasmas.

I have the 60" 550 and I think my wife loves it even more than me... this looked to be a killer deal. It is f'n beautiful. Broke it in with "Live Free or Die Hard" on blu ray!

I have a 42" Panasonic that is over 8yrs old and it looks great..... kind of sucks because how do you convince your wife you now need a 60"😉

Simple...60" > 42". Simple logic. And dont forget to mention 3D!

My G15 is around 5 years old, and it sill feels like new. Probably because I dont take off the protective film, so it literally looks like I just took it out of the box.

As someone mentioned, this is still going.

Also the warranty through Samsung is 15 months instead of the usual 12. All you have to do is register your product.

I have this beast mounted on a desk mount and it really changed my living room into a sicknasty place to be, especially since its football season.:wub::wub:

Personal Note: I do wish this had built in wireless... The USB2.0 port is not compatible with any other wireless adpater except the one Samsung sells which is an extra $70. You cannot use any other wifi USB adapter afaik, shame on you Samsung! This along with the next note probably caused me to choose a different brand on my next purchase that includes Samsung as a competitor.
Important Note:This model does not come with the advertised Ethernet Port(which is on the specifications page for Best Buy) -I contacted Samsung through live-chat and they wouldn't do anything about it except tell me that it did not have the port.

When I Google pricing on this model, it appears as though it's the same price at A LOT of places... Is this because promotional pricing is everywhere for the moment? Or is price point now standard for this particular model?

I'd be more inclined to believe the latter, because of how wide spread the pricing is. It's $998 at Walmart. So, what's the word on this? Even if this is the standard price point for this model now, is it still warm?

Far be it from me to tell you how to run your marriage, but let me share with you a story:

Moved the fiancee to FL this summer for internship, and bought her a tv so she could watch netflix and OTA programming. She, being a tightwad, was going to go without for the year she was there. I told her it could be the bedroom tv when we re-combined stuff. She finally said ok, as long as I didn't get her anything bigger than 32". I went out and bought a 42", told her it was a 37", and she (as I suspected) was initially upset but then agreed that the extra five inches was ok 🙂

Problem solved.

Lying to the fiancee, good start...

'I lied to her about the affair, but the happiness it brought me would give her benefits too, so it's ok'.

'She decided that the five extra inches were ok', not gonna touch that one.

I am using the Audio optical out to connect to my surround sound
When I watch a movie via HDMI or USB stick I get Audio
When I use the test sound screen I get Audio
However when using the inbuilt tuning there is no sound and I have to use the internal speakers
I have been through the setup many times and cannot see a problem to cause this
I have also been into the software setup and cannot see an issue

Is there something I have missed or is it a fault with the main board?

On my receiver (Onkyo HT-RC360) I had to bind audio inputs to video inputs, when everything wasnt going through HDMI. So HDMI-1 + Optical-1 = BD/DVD, HDMI-2 + Coax-1 = VCR/DVR, etc. For TV, there was no video input, so I set the TV setting to Optical-2. So on the actual TV I change the Input to Internal turner, then TV mode on the AVR. Internal TV speakers are also muted. Maybe you have to do something similar.
