"Seventy-seven percent (77%) of Republicans support the law along with 62% of voters not affiliated with either major party. Democratic voters are evenly divided on the measure."

"President Obama has denounced the Arizona law, and he and other critics of the measure see it as an incentive to push new national immigration reform legislation to supersede it."

---Looks like yet another public opinion blunder for Obama. The nation disagrees with you Mr. President.

Agreeing with a rule/law and how it is applied are 2 different things. Many are more worried how it will be applied, esp in small towns.

And Obama's real words were...
"Obama called the Arizona bill "misguided""

Let alone if you want to REALLY stop illegals you go after the business's that hire them, not each person. But I am sure that would not be a good thing for getting relected.

Oh an I see you used a right wing biased source. Well played.

Its funny how all the teabaggers have signs with Obama as hitler, yet they're championing a law which boils down to "show me your papers" ...

This law would seem to be throwing the concept of "probable cause" out the window.. and that's very unconstitutional.

This bill does not re-define probable cause, nor does it say its not needed. The opposite in fact. So youre dead wrong. And before you cry about how vague probable cause is, Im not aware of any law that specifically defines it.

That's not what I meant. What is the probable cause for law enforcement to stop you to check immigration status? There has to be something other than just "oh he looks Mexican.." or "he's obviously Mexican, so he's probably here illegally."

It boils down to defending our sovereignty and dealing with this invasion head on.

In theory it's fine, but in reality it boils down to harrassment of those who look Latino (or otherwise non-white). I imagine though the frustration with illegal immigration in the American south must run rather high to propose this.

Why yes, lets throw all 12 million illegals into our overcrowded jail and prison system thats the answer  Maybe we can just declare open hunting season on illegals, require all mexicans to wear their green card around their neck on a chain. No visable green card, BOOM head shot.

Dumbass state law, enacted by dumbass reactionary people

Do they want to put them in prison or deport them?

Illegal immigration will never stop until the government starts heavily fining companies to the point in which it is no longer profitable to hire illegals.

That's how capitalism works.

It boils down to dems getting their panties in a wad over losing out on a possible giant voting block

Illegals don't have voting rights, and Hispanics as a whole are about 50/50 between the two parties. Karl Rove spent considerable time and effort with Bush courting Hispanics starting back in the 90s in Texas. Karl Rove has said that Hispanics are the key voting block for the Republicans, and can be lured via Catholicism and immigration. This is why Bush was pro-immigration, one of his biggest divides with most of the rest of the Republicans.

I'm still waiting for someone to tell me what the probable cause is for stopping people to check immigration status...

Weak.

An illegal should never be able to murder anyone, they should have been prevented from being here in the first place. See the difference?

No weaker than your original broad comment. Thats the point.

why not do both?

One works; the other waste time and money and is nothing more than a pony and dog show for people too dumb to see.

Here is the SB1070 law for AZ...

http://www.azleg.gov/legtext/49leg/2r/bills/sb1070s.pdf

Funny how “conservatives” complain when the “liberal” federal government pass’s a law/rule that is not fully funded. Yet when the “conservative” State forces the local governments to do something and not fund it, it’s ok.
