I'm definately going with the BH7. It's new, and it's CHEAP.

You can buy an Intel Gigabit adapter for $40....and move it to another system down the road if you need to.

Is there a way to slow that fan down or take it out all together?
If I take it out is there enough cooling in the box?

Read the thread. If you take the fan out or modify it at all, you'll get a warning/error message on boot up that you have to press F1 to. And it's really not that loud. I can't even hear the box.

Its not loud with out the fan? or with the fan?

I have read somewhere where the fan should vary in speed depanding on the temp. So far I have not seen that on my box it is cranking at full speed.

Waiting to ship to the shipper so it can get shipped to me.

My unit has been "in transit to local carier" or something for two days now.

Still can't get a tracking number.

Once it leaves dell how long does it actualy take in y'alls experience to get a tracking number? Dell says 3 or 4 days which almost seems silly.

Been a while since I ordered from dell. Back in the day I don't remember it taking this long to get a built to order computer. Is dell slipping?

Can someone offer me a link please to the correct driver for this onboard adapter running XP-Pro??

If you haven't tried it yet, choose Track By Reference Number on UPS and use your order number as the reference number. It worked for my hard drive I bought a couple of weeks ago.

shipping - mine came much eariler than anticipated...I don't think the tracking is realtime.

cpus - I received one of the first systems...it was SL6RZ so I would imagine all of the ones since are too.

Is there anything special about the heatsink? Or can I just move the CPU and heat sink to another MB and slide a celeron into the 600C?

IIRC, the pin out on dell fans are weird, so you might want to leave that fan inside that case

from what I'm gathering....the bios isn't happy unless it's reading a fan rpm.

in all honestly...I really don't see a reason to upgrade the heatsink. you can't overclock or anything.

instead, buy a cheap s478 celeron and use the Dell hsf. Then take the 2.4 and have at it in a dedicated overclocking system.

I was thinking if the CPU and heatsink stay together, it would be easier to return it to it's original confirguration if i need to take advantage of Dell support.

And you scared me with this comment:

trikster2 - When you pull the heatsink the goop suction is so great you'll probably pull the chip outta the socket with it haha

Did some research and the BH7 looks like a great Mother Board if I want to attempt to overclock to 3Ghz.

What's a good heatsink for P4s if I'm not using the Dell, and if the HSF on the Retail 1.7 Ghz Celeron I'm getting sucks?

Cnetpc.com has 512mb sticks of Samsung or Micron memory for this server for $79. Which brand is better?

I just ordered the Samsung memory from z-buy.com for $79 - haven't used that company before, and hope the memory works.

Will let this thread know later this week.

Does anyone know if this deal is still valid??

I get the emails from Dell all the time, but the most recent one I got didn't mention servers at all, just desktops, notebooks and workstations.

Important Note: For those not aware of this, Dell Small Business Division issues rebate checks payable to the COMPANY NAME you place your order under. If you don't own a company, use YOUR NAME as the COMPANY NAME!!!

Dell Small Business rebates come in the name of the company you list, but in small type right next to the company name it also says "or Bearer", meaning anyone can cash the checks...so no worries there.

Well still no tracking number for me.

Dell says it shiped the morning of the 20th, and here we are the 24th it is still "In Transit To Local Carrier"

One has to wonder if it fell off a truck or something.

I always hate that waiting part between ordering and getting a new computer.......
