Lets get the info correct. Body Armour protects what ??, the body. Its also pretty useless without the Trama Plate. If you don't know what this is , you have no business posting. Ever heard of Hydoshocks, with a steel pin in the core. OOOPs, they go right through body armour. Sure this all sucks the big one. War is hell, but the cause is a just one IMHO.

Kindly stop relying on video games for your firearms information, and feigning knowledge of subjects in which you have none.

Thank you DonVito.I was not sure my above post was going to do the trick.

Found 'Em !

But what I think he ment were the Winchester or Federal Hollow Points.

Heh.

It is most likely just regular old steel core that is prevalent in military ammo in that caliber (7.62x54R).

They should stop sacrificing good men..

We are told that the Americans are bad and the Muslim terrorists are good. If that is your slant then I agree with you. If, however, you are wanting the coalition to pull out leaving Iraq, and the world, only marginally better than they were before they liberated Iraq then I would have to ask what is your strategy.

Give up and become Muslim or do we simply cut our own heads off to save the freedom fighters the effort? Perhaps all men should behead all infidel women or women who have had sex or been raped by a man other than their husband. That way we could prove our loyalty to the extremist Muslim religion.

Perhaps the "pull the cover over our heads and it will go away" is the suggested approach.

Personally, I would like to see the entire world enjoy freedom rather than be enslaved.

You mean like "better" as in turning Iraq into yet another Iran fundementalist government? You got it. Like a breading ground for terrorists hoaning thier skills?? Got that too CIA says. You have a strange sense of "better"... not to mention all the blood and cash spent on this "fundamentalist muslim empowerment zone."

I'm reading 3-6 US soldiers die every day in Iraq so this certainly is'nt a shocker or even newsworthy according to the mainstream press who seems to have forgotten the carnage they cheerlead going in. Anyway you want all the stories good and bad about iraq and other places check out antiwar.com they seem unparalled in thier coverage.

I tend to read the BBC, they're much more unbiased. 🙂

What a joke, the BBC is heavily biased, you need to do a little research lol.....

Alistar ! Baby ! How's your DU ?

Yeah, I'm guessing 7.62x54R too.

damn thing's been around forever. It entered service in 1891 [?] and they still use it in the russian army.. albeit limited use now compared to original use.

Whoa? You mean to tell me they've got body armor that can actually stop a round from a Ak? I never knew that... How heavy is it exactly?

I believe the standard GI flak vest can stop an AK round, but not a high-velocity round from a sniper rifle. I was issued one when I was deployed after 9/11, and had to hump that damned thing over hill and dale, along with my web belt, gas mask, Kevlar helmet, etc. If memory serves it was made of 13 layers of Kevlar, and weighed somewhere in the neighborhood of 10-12 pounds.

Interesting, can the helmets actually take a hit too? I'd imagine you get a nice big welt if you ever got hit...

I don't think you would get a welt at all, actually. Those vests are nearly an inch thick. As long as the bullet didn't penetrate, I can't see how you'd feel anything more than a dull thud.

I have no idea how the helmets' protection compares to that of the vests. I'm certainly no expert on these things; I only know what I've been told and what I experienced carrying them around. God knows I've never been shot in one . . .

Did you ever see the CNN Article on the Iraqis that shot a solider but video taped it in the process? The guy lived and the round was stuck on his vest... I'll see if I can dig it up...

Here is an interesting article on what the Kevlar helmet cannot do.
Brain injuries high among Iraq casualties

The Army Medical Corp is probably hard at work at improving the existing combat headgear.

Early in WW1, German Army doctors were apalled by the sheer numbers of gruesome head wounds, especially to the high portion of the forehead. Read about the original "Fritz" helmet here.
It was discovered later that one rifle bullet would pass through two, sometimes three soldiers, when fired at ranges of less than 1000 meters.

I was in Germany when the Army went Kevlar. It was so much better than the old Steel Pot. Three different sizes. It was much lighter and far more comfortable than the old one. There was a procurement scandal early on. The manufacturer was caught using chopped remants of Kevlar to make some helmets which were defective automatically.
