6-pin PCIE to 8-pin PCIE adapter?

So I think I have decided to go with a 4870x2, I would like to go with Visiontek because of their warranty.

I have a 1K Watt Power supply that I would rather not replace. It has 4 6-pin PCIE connectors.

I have noticed most 4870x2 do no include a 6-pin to 8-pin adapter, like some the GTX280s do.

Does anyone know where I can buy online an adapter for this card?

Thanks for the help

no but you can make one with an alligator clip and 6 inches of wire.

:p

it is what i have done since my 2900 crossfire

simply use your 6-pin + 6-pin PCIe cables like mine and then use your clip to ground both uncovered pins to a black molex ground

CCC is fooled

i am going to have to try it with my BFG tech GTX280 coming next week, also .. but i think they include the adapter for $390

I don't think that will work. I read somewhere that the MB 8-pin is different than the PCIE 8-pin. I think they even made the connectors on the pins different, so you could not mistakenly do that.

Why did you get the GTX280? Are you replacing your 4870x2?

i do reviews for a new site [ABT is in my sig and it is coming up this weekend; Launch is Oct 1st] .. it is also tech, besides gaming and P&N.

i want to test the GTX280 vs. the HD4870 and 4870x2. There is a lot the other tech sites glossed over. Plus there is the Big Bang II drivers coming and PhysX that needs attention. Mixed sli .. lots of cool stuff.
