I bought x1900xt video card. I had x800xl which did not require power cable to be plugged in. But know im short of 6 pin cable that is required for new card. How does that adapter for 2-4 a pin to 1 - 6 pin work?

"Connect directly to the power supply with a 6 pin PCI Express power connector"
Is it ok if my 4 pin connectors are in use with other hardware like hdd and dvd room?

There's no harm in using the 2 four-pin to 1 six-pin adapter. All you need is two free 4-pin power plugs; hook the adapter to both of those and then plug the six-pin end into the graphics card. However, if you don't have enough 4pin connections from your PSU, you might need to consider a PSU with more hookups.

Each 4-pin plug from the PSU can only go to one thing (I believe) so you'll need one for each drive; one for each fan (possibly), one for any other items in your case, and two for the GPU. Some older PSU's or cheap newer PSU's only come with a few 4-pin connections and it's easy to use them all up too fast.

really, I only have like three 4 pin connectors left, but they are used in conjunction with other hardware.

The 4 pins have two ends, meaning you can plug in two things into one 4-pin

does that count?

It should be fine just plugging those in. The power all comes from the same place anyway.

DVDs and HDDs only use the 5V line from the Molex connector, so the 12V line used by your video card is free of use (the YELLOW cable).

The real question we should all be asking is.........Are you sure you even have enough power for this new card??

If you can barely spare another 4-pin connector and your old card never needed extra power, you may be in need of a power supply upgrade.

Let us know the make/model/wattage of your unit.
