Just read in the paper, that a law enacted on Dec 30th, 2000 by Outgoing President Bill Clinton, ends on April 30th.

The law basically says that Any illegal immigrant who has been in country for some time and has a legitimate job can bypass the old process and become a legal immigrant. According to the old process, you had to return to your country, file an application, and then wait 3-10 years before coming back. The new law bypasses the old return and wait process. The catch? You have to be sponsored by a close relative (mother,son,wife, etc) or a boss.

As such, here on Long Island... the local town halls are JAMMED constantly with people filing for marriage licenses to stay.

So.. let me be the first to offer myself to any cute asian lady who wants to stay 🙂 😉

Well, I think you could find a few here. They just found another ship full of them the other week, so it does happen. Lighten up.
 
I think this law only applies to illegaly immigrated people. Though I wonder how many people(all races) are here illegally.
 
woohoo, i already filed, long time ago...let me tell you it sucks to wait. but they do give you all the temp stuff (im talking an 8 year wait....1 month to go)

hmmm because he's dum, i think that most asian, and indi, and europe imigrants are legal. i could be wrong, but it's kindof hard to sneak into america over the pacific, it's not like cuba, where they can get across in orange crates. or canada where they can just walk right in.. 😉 hey nuttin but love for the canadians. canadians are great.

Ark... i'm dum? illegal immigrants doesnt mean they snuck over here... illegal immigrants could have been legal immigrants that skipped out on visas when they expired, or work visas that no longer are valid.. they're still illegal. snuck over here or came here legallay at one time.. no difference to the government. Think before you post ok? 😉
 
hell, asians r the last of the illegal immigrants to worry about getting legal CUZ ASIANS WON'T go out of their way to do something like this. When I read the post, I assumed it was Hispanics (primarily Mexicans) who would reap the benefits from this law.

but in all, its all good nature. I didn't find anything ofensive

yeah, it would be mostly hispanics bc of the geography. but, from what studies say, ok ok, my high school professor, most mexicans and those below come here, only to work, with INTENTIONS of returning home to their families. you cannont blame them for trying to make ends meet.

heres an eye opener, for us to get all the paperwork filed, we had to pay 2k per head...and we already pay taxes. without this, i cant get financial aid for school. so when we rant, there is something behind it. did natural born itizens have to pay this? no, not really a big deal. my big deal is having to wait, live thru sugglish times, then pay, just to be at par with the rest of the country just bc i wasnt born here? and i havent been able to go to a real college?

i dont have a problem with the system. but for every 5 applications that get turned in, only one is processed, immigration is years behind. i guess they only work mondays and tuesdays.

BTW, i have lived here 17 years. thats a lot or visa renewing. im broke🙁 (not that you could tell with the shiny new civic outside🙂)

No matter if you came here illegally or just didn't fill out a new visa application - you're still doing something wrong. It's bull that people who broke the law should get their citizenship going through less bull then people that actually came here legally and followed the rules. It just pisses me off that I had to go through 6 years of government bull and tons of money in order to become a citizen of this country, when someone who came here illegally just needs a nice little referral from a friend and becomes a citizen.

Under this law - do illegal citizens have to wait 5 years to apply for citizenship? Do they have to pay hundreds of dollars of the right to become a citizen?
 
i know exactly what you mean tg, like i said, ive been waiting almost a decade...it varies depending where yo ucome from...but i know many who just married for it, and had full residency within a year.

That's how I got residency so quick - my mother married my stepdad 😱
But she didn't do it just to get residency. We moved here from Germany so that she could live with the man she loves.
But it still took over 6 1/2 after that to actually get the citizenship.
