AT&T (formerly SBC) outsources their tier1 support to India. Tier2 support is much better, and you can communicate with them through the SBC Direct forum at http://www.dslreports.com .

AT&T has been flooded with orders for this new 6 meg plan, and they are running behind on the ordered upgrades.

I think they're about caught up. I signed up for the upgrade last Saturday on the web and when I came home yesterday afternoon it was done. I'm averaging 5005 download and 636 upload - that is net after overhead.

I agree with your link to dslreports and the Direct forum. I'm not sure there is a better, more effective support site on the web.

As for reliabliity, I have been with SBC DSL for over 4 years and can only remember one or two outages which only lasted a couple of hours at most. I haven't seen any in the last couple of years, so I would rate the stability as excellent.

That depends on your location. I average 1 or 2 a year in my area that last an hour or so. Thats like 99.99% uptime something like that.

I wonder if SBC is trying to scam some of us. I upgraded my parents to 3.0/512 a couple weeks ago. Their DSL modem reports the upgradw went theough - 3Mbps. however their fastest download is 1.5Mbps... Is there a problem or did SBC just decide to offer upgrades to people just to lock them in for another year?

I'm going to guess that their upload though is the at its fullest right?

if so head on over to dslreports.com and to the ATT forum and post in the ATT direct board, they'll fix the problem. your profile just needs to be rebuilt.

Redback profile needs to be updated, it's a real headache for att techs.

besides, you are not GUARANTEED the max speed. If they were really trying to scam everyone, they would give all of us the minimum guaranteed speed and say
"sorry, take that and get bent" Just go through the proper channels as listed above and be patient.
