One thing to note if you are buying this.

The cables have a warning attached to them saying if you put the cable on the header backwards it will fry the unit. So be careful out there and make sure you can tell your "Pin 1" from your "Pin 4"

QuickNDirty, Toadster et al.,
The Soyo Bay 1's card reader is USB 1.1, only the USB jacks are USB 2. I suppose it could be hooked to USB 1.1 headers as well, then all would be 1.1.
. It also looks like BananaPC.com and Cocobrain.com are the same company.

that would be kind of hard to do without you listing an email or enabling your profile.

Just got mine from newegg and did the installation. Everything is working.
Each device get its own drive letter from XP and the usb work. Sweeeeet!

Unless you use Memory Stick Pro or other higher speed media, you still won't be able to utilize USB 2.0 transfer rates. Most of the media transfer rates are 12 Mbps, RIGHT?

BTW...I purchased a USB 2.0 Pocket reader for $18 @ a computer show...I checked online and saw this USB 2.0

Still not a bad price...

I've only tried memory sticks on it so far utilizing USB 1.1 (because of the media). I figured i'll eventually get a faster speed media.

I prefer this over an internal one because I can take it with my laptop and transfer files as needed.

I fried a track ball by assuming I knew the pin-out of a certain motherboard's USB header.

Compact flash media is easily faster than USB 1.1.

I have a USB 1.1 adapter and a PCCARD adapter for my laptop. The PCCARD adapter is up to 2 times faster than the USB adapter.

There is a nice realworld comparison on throughput out there but I'm too lazy to find it right now. Only thing I came up with quickly is Lexars claims:

Lexar Media's patented 4X, 12X, 32X and 40X speed (1X=150KB/sec.), (4X=600KB/sec.), (12X=1.8MB/sec.), (32X=4.8MB/sec.), and (40X=6.0MB/sec.) transfer rate respectively)

Note the big B, that 's easly 4 times faster than the max for USB 1.1. Even the more common 12X exceeds usb 1.1 specs.
