I have the Soyo and it's nice. 2.0, also. FWIW, similar deal, different brand.

Jamautosound-

Question...that Soyo 6-in-1...is it USB2.0 on all connections? I have the 5-in-1 now, but it is only USB2.0 on those ports...the readers themselves are only USB 1.1...
TIA-
QnD

Not sure on that. I'll look in the manual when I get home tonight.

Unless my AIW 9700 comes in, then you're just gonna have to wait.;)

I think the Soyo Bayone 6-in-1 is a better and cheaper product. It includes two USB 2.0 ports and all the cables/drive frame stuffs. It even costs less than $30 shipped.

The only thing I wish it can do is to read the new xD memory card.

So, it is USB 1.1 for memory card reader. USB 2.0 for the USB ports in the Soyo Bayone.

The Apacer unit described in opening post is already listed as backordered. Anandtech effect I suppose.

I thought it odd that the Bayone unit is USB 1.1 for the card slots but USB 2.0 for the extra jacks until I read the product specs. I just assumed that you could cable this thing to a single USB header and be done with it, but the product specs point out that you need three free USB headers to fully utilize all its options. I guess it's pretty inexpensive to include the "2.0" jacks on the front of this thing since they're just simple pass-throughs. I imagine they'll eventually revise the circuitry on the card reader so that it runs at USB 2.0 speeds as well, but for now this seems to add a significant expense to these products. In that regard the Apacer unit seems like a real bargain, and the separate bezels is a definite plus. Hopefully it will come back in stock.

I'm not really sure if any of those readers are truly 2.0 readers, or they're just 2.0 compatible. Be carefull.
Some websites list a SIIG 8-In-1 USB 2.0 reader for around the same price, although SIIG has no listing of such an item on their website.

The only multi-card reader that I know is full 2.0 speed is the new Dazzle external reader. The others are just too new to know.

There was a good deal a few weeks back on an external SanDisk ImageMate USB 2.0 multicard reader at buy.com. It runs at true 2.0 speeds. However many people had problems getting it to work initially, including myself. Eventually fixed with a tricky firmware update.

The one from SVC is 1.1USB. For $6 bucks more you can get a 2.0USB which is like 30-40x faster.
Here is the deal I found at AJump.com

Plus, the reader at SVC doesn't appear to offer a USB connector on the front of the card reader. I have one on mine now and I use it all the time for connecting gaming devices.

is yours USB2.0?
If so how much fast do you feel it is?
Like a lot faster or just enough so you can feel it?

Anybody know where I can get the Soyo Bayone 6.1 AVI pro reader/writer with 1394 and USB 2.0??? The convenience of having firewire in front would be great. Thanks in Advance. Erick

Strange, I'm sure its just an omission but the drive at ajump doesn't show a cable as part of the package. I'm guessing you need a cable to connect to your mb header.

EDIT>>>I'm a but concerned since all of the other usb readers state they include a cable.

The Ajump unit includes a cable. I emailed them about this and got a reply within an hour.

Also confirmed via tech support email that the Ajump reader is, in fact, USB 2.0 speed for memory cards, unlike the BayOne unit. Although the Ajump card described in the opening post is OOS until next week according to the email I received, they do have an identical unit here for the same price; only difference = no logo on the front bezel. Ordered one today---thanks again to OP for posting.

I have this reader and am very dissatisfied with it.. My computer is very laggish with it installed and it had a hard time reading my sony memory sticks... I thought it was me but I found some people who had the same device and had similar problems.. I tried finding one that would work better but couldn't find any internal memory reader that didn't cause similar problems :(

Hi, I'd be interested in more details.

what kind of system do you have?

was there a forum where people complained about these devices? Where did you find other people with this problem?

Have you ever tried an external dedicated ms reader? If so did you get the same problems?

Got one. I've been waiting for the last month for these to hit the market. Personally, I like it without the logo even better!

Thanks!

It was on here, when I bought it I was having problems and made a post (can't remember in which exact forum but it was on this site)... I had other people reply back that they had similar problems and when I asked for solutions I had multiple people say they had tried a variety of different internal readers and all that connect to the usb controller pretty much have the same problem.. While this isn't a thourough analysis or definite findings do take it with a grain of salt.

I've never tried an external.. I have a variety of media cards but I usually just use the device to transfer data instead of a dedicated reader.. The main reason for buying the reader (yes, it's silly) was to fill a 3.5" slot on my computer to make it look better.. Of course I always thought I could use the reader, but in the end I ended up just disconnecting it because it was more pain than it was usable. I should've brought it back but I was hopeful that at some later time I could've fixed it.

BTW, I only paid $12 for it at fry's, but this was a couple months ago...

If you're interested in my system you can check it out in my sig.. I had it running in my main rig..
