An early push by New Jersey Republican Rep. Scott Garrett to add some “teeth” to the GOP’s new Constitution rule requiring every bill cite its specific constitutional authority failed in a Republican conference meeting Tuesday.

There is a thread already about the fail on thier promise to cut a scant 100 billion form the budget but remember the claim by the Republicans that you had to point to an actual enumerated power to pass anything and that you couldn't claim "general welfare" or "necessary and proper" as justification? They failed to get this out of committee on the day they took their oaths of office.

If people never cited the general welfare clause as constitutional authority we wouldn't have 90% of the shit that comes out of DC

Funny thing that general welfare clause, socialists always leave off the most important part, the action verb, describing governments role in that action. It's *promote* the general welfare, NOT secure or provide or establish or insure for the general welfare, but to promote it.

I wonder why our OP, Zebo is so witless as to mis title this thread. All of the GOP campaign promises were bald face lies when they were uttered many many moons ago,
and anyone with a brain knew they were bogus then.

And a better thread title would be, it only took the first six hours of the 112'th congress to prove the 2010 GOP campaign promises were bogus.

After all, why act surprised, only the gullible believe GOP campaign promises.

They sure fooled a lot of voters in this election didn't they?

looks like all the Tea Parthy Bullshit went for naught.

Therein may be the hinge 2011 turns on. While, IMHO, tbaggers are rather brainless Utopian visionaries, some of them are actually zealous enough to believe their own vision of reality.

And they may break the lockstep unity of the GOP. And really give ole weeping John something to weep about if they don't vote as Boehner orders. As they say, politics makes for strange bedfellows.

I say lets toss some dead birds at them...
Amen brotha.

If politics is good for anything, it's unintentional comedy. I could read threads all day just to laugh at people blaming politicians or political parties for things.

America is a country of fools, the show that every time they vote Republican and expect something different than the Democrats (and vice versa).

Fixed.

Same exact bullshit from both parties. Just like Bush jr jr (Obama), new boss same as the old boss.

The only real difference is the size of the metaphorical wet spot, and who gets stuck sleeping in it.

A politician's primary cause is to get himself more power.

Career politicians will never agree to limit their power. Ever.
