You have any way to estimate the power-consumption? (at any clock and at any Vcc will do)

Yeah I don't think AMD is going to be seeing $500 SKU's anytime soon. It is a sad state of affairs when even the most staunch pro-AMD posters talk about their hopes that BD simply "catches AMD back up to Intel". It's a rarity to find a poster so enthused about AMD's prospects from now thru 2011 that they are willing to suggest AMD is going to best Intel any more.

And what do we get for it? 32nm doesn't ship in 2009 now, pushed to Q1 2010...and 32nm quads? Wait and wait. And enthusiast gulftown? See you at the end of Q1 2010 if not Q2, gone are the days of the Nov release with the enthusiast part out front and center.

Is BD catching up to Intel really such a bad benchmark though? Any "enthusiasm" I have ever had for any tech company is usually just the result of irritation at their competitors shipping trash products. Intel mroe or less has its act together now, so there is nothing wrong with AMD being "only" on par with Sandy Bridge.

If Intel wants to take a breather and delay products, thats good news for the consumer in the long run. It means AMD is more competitive in the long run.

65nm just went sooooo badly for AMD along with that TLB errata. They didn't have the same resilience (massive stores of cash to burn through) as Intel did when they had a mistep (P4). AMD's one mistep made them lose in ~1 year (06-07) all the market share they took 3 years to gain (03-06). It's taking them a lot longer to recover but at least they seem to be off of life-support, which is good news for all consumers.
