I'm sure a lot of us could build better systems for the same or less. But these deals are still pretty handy for those that don't want to spend the time assembling. Don't forget that the xp copy there is another 100 too. Count that in your cost of building

Also, people here and recommend them to their non pc literate friends to purchase instead of building and selling to them. That way you can avoid supporting it too.

thx rasputin

your welcome...

tell me what adds up to $500 there? that's after a big rebate also...

Also dont forget these Dells are nearly completely quiet. To get anything near this quiet you gotta spend $150 or more on an Antec or Enermax powersupply, a quiet CPU fan, and a decent, well built quiet case. Factor that into your costs.

I don't think that was a threapcrap. I think it is informative to discuss. I thought I could build a machine for about the same, but soon realized I couldn't build one as quiet or with a 1 year warranty...even using cheapo Fry's motherboard/CPU combo's at rock bottom prices.

What are you talking about? I work at DELL developing products...

The cooling systems used on DELL machines are quiet, they have good heatsink designs and use a simple duct with a quiet (larger) fan...what is so great about that? We aren't overclocking here...

A retail Intel HSF is quiet and is sufficient for running default speeds...

Again, I could go to Fry's and build a better system with the same money...

If you guys want to buy the system...go for it...in a way it benefits me i guess...

Are you buying your legitimate copy of XP and the other software at Frys also?

I build plenty of computers. These deals are perfect for people like those that asked me which one to buy today. If I built them one, I?d be responsible for supporting it. I spend enough time dealing with family and friends computer needs as it is.

Did I miss out? I don?t see the rebate anywhere.

I have built my own systems and have no problem supporting them, but when a friend calls me up and asks for help on his Gateway I only have so much patience. That's why he bought a Gateway, right? Support? I have helped for hours and it is now a royal pain in the neck.... NO MAS! You buy Gateway you buy their support, not mine!!

Hmmm no, you're thinking 2400 series. Dell allows you upgrade to ATI 9800 pro or Nvidia 5200 on the 4600 series.
