^^ Number of hours Sears scheduled me this week. That's not a job, that's helping out Sears for a day and them handing me a few dollars as I walk out the door.

Time to look for another job, I suppose, but it's not easy to find something good.

No, it's not that. After Christmas they are mandated to cut so many hours from each department. Guess they have too many cashiers. All the regulars, the older adults who have been there for years, are still getting their 30 hours. The kids, though, are getting 5-10.

Went to the Careers section of the Citizens Bank website. I figured you had to be 18 to get any kind of job with them, but I figured I could go ahead and go through the application process now. Well, after I answered "no" to being 18, it said I am not eligible and LOCKED ME OUT of the system to reapply under six months later. So now, when I do turn 18 in March, I still can't get a job there. So I essentially screwed myself over by even trying now.

What a stupid system, why couldn't it just say "Sorry, we only hire 18 and up, please try again when you turn 18"?

Well if you aren't even 18 yet, I wouldn't worry too much about big paychecks. You shouldn't have any bills yet.

My only bills are car insurance and cell phone. And of course filling up my tank.

But my local Citizens would've been a great choice once I turn 18 in March. Now I can't consider it until July 28. There must be a way around that once I'm 18...

Can't you just apply there in person?

In the business of retail it is common practice to lower an employee's hours to a minimum to make them quit. Firing them doesn't look all that good and saves the managers the hassle of doing so. If they lower your hours so much so that you cannot support yourself, then of course...you have to find a new job.

Because, like Sears and Circuit City and many other places, there is no paper application. If you walk in and say "I want to apply" they just sit you down at a computer and you do the online thing, only there.

Jan-Feb-March are the 3 slow months for retail historicly. Most repail places hire like crazy for nov-december when they make 80% of the money. Most just give pinkslips after Christmas. Hey, Merry Christmas, have a pink slip. yay! At least youa re still employed, so you at least get benfits. As you get older, you realise how benifits mean more than you paycheck. Or at least augment it a ton.

Benefits meaning more than the paycheck, yes I can understand that entirely. But benefits for ME? Of course I don't get any.

As far as 80% of their money around Christmas time goes, I can personally vouch for the truthfulness of that. One day in the hardware deparment about a week before Christmas when I was working, that deparment alone in that day alone sold $45,000. Now it's about $1500.

My dad recommended bartending when I turn 18. I don't know the first thing about alcohol but I could learn!
