I caved and bought this combo last Friday at the Sunnyvale, CA store for $69. When I took it home, it would not POST ... everything powered on, but no BIOS screen. After reading all the flame wars about this board, I thought I got a junky board (it was brand new too). I spent the weekend troubleshooting, referring to all the online forums. I brought it back to Fry's and I actually got a competent Customer Rep who tested the board. Turned out the CPU was bad. Got it exchanged with no problems (I actually rate this as a good Fry's return experience).

Anyway, I'm now running XP Pro and it seems to be running fine. I ran SiSoft burn-in and 3D-Mark several times, with no problems. 😀

I am afraid.... at least for greater Los Angeles area.... they are all out of them. However, they ARE taking raincheck on the the combo til promised end date. ETA, on combo getting restockedd is 1 week.

15 minutes from Fry's and all other major stores (Staples, OM, OD, BB, CC, etc).

By the way... I have this system up and running and so far it is running perfectly. I used DDR instead of SDRAM. Just be careful installing the drivers off the disk that comes with the mb... you may not for instance want to use the VGA driver that comes on the disk. Be sure to set the BIOS properly for the CPU/ram you are running (133/133, etc. the CPU bios settings are a bit odd).

Guys, look at your cpu when you pick up this $59/$69 combo when you purchased this deal. The first chip they gave me was chipped so bad that I knew that it was going to be defective. When I got the second chip, I can tell that it was brand new. My second problem was the serial no. of the first cpu was printed on my cash receipt and did not reflect the second chip now installed in a friend's box. I am not going to pull the second chip because it is running fine.

Can I use an intel CPU (4) fan for this AMD CPU?
Or are the CPU's now different in their physical layout?

If you have to ask that question then perhaps you should buy a prebuilt computer and not worry about this.

Does anyone here have the rebate address for tthhe Wagan AC Inverter from Fry's? The rebate receipt didn't print out right, some of it got cut off. I know the rebate is supposed to go to __89 Yale Way, Fremont CA 94538. Thanks guys! 🙂

Well, the one in Dallas was all out when my friend and I arrived. They gave us rain checks, and said that if they don't get the CPU back in stock in a month (when the rain check expires), we could always go back and get the rain check extended.

I'm just glad there aren't any rebates to hassle over. $59 + tax is an awesome price for this combo...
