5V vs. 12V

Well, in my random research while looking for a new power supply for my system, I've found some contradictory information about the power source for my CPU. I'm not at all sure whether it's drawing power from the 12V rail, or from the 5V. The chip is an AXP 3200+ on an Asus A7N8X-X motherboard. If anyone knows for sure what voltage that processor is running off of, I'd really appreciate it.

Athlon XP runs off 12 volt if there is a 12V power connector...and additional 4 wire connector with 2 yellow and 2 black wires. If there is no 12v connector, the CPU runs off 5 volts.

A picture of your mobo HERE doesn't look like it has a 12v connector, so I'd say your CPU runs off 5 volts.

he has the asus a7n8x, it's running off the +5v

these boards draw A LOT of power off the +5v. I've seen pictures of the +5v pin from the PS that was connected to an A7n8x, and it was a discolored brownish color

My board burned up a truepower 550, hehe. Don't get any PS for these boards with less than 40a for the +5. 30-35a is "Safe", but if you overclock or juice up the voltage to the cpu, 40a +

lol instead of getting a new PSU, i think it's better to just get a new board if it sounds as bad as you say it is

there has been a few reported issues between Antec PS and the A7N8X, I definitely would not run another with my board, which is why I got a modstream when my TruePower 550 croaked. I'm not spending money on a new mobo right now

Thanks, Green Man and rickn. That's what I had suspected, because of my dangling 12V connector (took me so long to figure out what that was for...). I suppose that kind of puts a damper on my plan to get a 3700AMB and use the included power supply, although at least I now know that there could be a problem.
