The Ghost II has been reviewed, but the non-branded ones that look identical are, in fact, identical. (I've purchased both.)

So, was the Ghost II good? How bright were they to your eyes? Note that the link I provided claims to be the manufacturer of the Ghost II in China. Never bought from them because I'm a bit iffy on sending Paypal overseas (especially to commies  ) but have seriously thought about it.

I believe you 'underpower' your flashlight if you use nimh instead of alkalines. Would this have any impact on the bulb life?

Yeah, instead of lasting 100,000 hours, the LEDs would have their lifespan reduced to around 150,000 hours.

I've bought several LED lights from Axshop. I got the 5 led light in the title 2 days ago. Good deal for the price but has 1 serious problem, the switch easily turns on in my pocket, quickly running down the expensive batteries. Actually buying the light, keeping the batteries and throwing away the light might be a good deal.

I've also purchased several of the 9 led lights from Axshop, one of five burned out 2 of the 9 leds in 5 minutes, all the others are working fine.

I've also bought the $8 8 led light from Surpluscomputers. It is brighter and obviously better made than the 9 led lights from Axshop.

Axshop has poor customer service, they have delivered everything I've ordered, but the packaging is poor and delivery is very slow. They have not replaced the defective light, but their policy for defective merchandise is the customer pays shipping both ways, the light cost $3+$2shipping, so I'd have to pay $4 just to get a replacement.

My advice: Don't buy the 5 led light in the topic (unless you just want the batteries). Axshop does have a slightly smaller one led keychain light that has a press and hold switch, which I have and works well, almost as bright as the 5 led one, and doesn't run down the batteries accidentally.

If you want a nice, but cheap larger led light, get the $8 8 led light from surplus computers.

WOW! FIRST POST IN ALMOST 9 MONTHS.

Good info by the way. Thanks! I think I will order from Surplus Computers.

Finally got my order of the 3W Luxeon. I don't know if these Luxeon LEDs are the real thing. It's pretty darn bright for a single LED and that's powering them with 1.2v rechargeable batteries (all I had on hand). Flashlight has a nice solid feel to them. Reason I got this particular one is that I'm a fan of AA batteries since they are cheaper than other small batteries, sometimes by a LOT. This unit uses 2xAA, 50¢ worth of batteries versus many of these brighter LED flashlights that use 3xAAA, closer to $1.50 of batteries. Of course you're talking about 3V versus 4.5V. Don't know if these use a power stepper (is that right term?) to up the voltage the LED sees. I'd say that these are a reasonable value for about $14 shipped. Now if they'd only get here quicker than almost 4 weeks...
