 Your post is after mine, as if you are responding to me, are you? If you are then be assured I have no qualms "cutting" Slappa some "slack".

I'm just trying, and perhaps failing at it, to explain why the thread(s) are viewed with some suspicion by the same moderators that we all rely on day in and day out to keep the spam and marketing crud out of this forum.

So sometimes they have a false-positive, how about cutting THEM some slack? No one is perfect, and all mods work for free, so you guys are getting what you pay for :) :p lol

Very sorry IDC my post was being typed as you posted yours. It was not directed at you and I found your post very professional and exactly what this thread needed.

Aigo, you are the perpetual optimist :D No really, stop any time now :p We can't withstand having any more sunshine blown up our asses ;) You've already said more than enough flattering comments about us CPU forum folks D: You had us at "slow and mildly dimwitted, much akin to an aardvark, a rather drunk aardvark"

I just feel like you should cut him some slack. So be it if this is what he enjoys is suicide running his 1090T. Maybe someone does find this stuff interesting and thinks this thread is worthwhile.

Though honestly I don't really think hes a marketer. If someone was marketing a chip for whatever reason I'm thinking we would see a lot more of him hyping the chip itself and less about the different cooling methods. In his prior threads it seems there is more focus on the new LN2 pot or using Dry Ice rather then "zomg look what a 1090T can do"

Just my take on it though.

This is exactly my thought process. I do the suicides for enjoyment...finding boundaries.

I understand this. But to be honest and I'll let you guys know now. I am 17 year old and I live in Canada. I am a highschool student looking to go into comp engineering next year. I am not making these posts to market.

Well i came into this thread late.

But i can tell ya, even if i was to post my 990X numbers for a quick cpu-z, the level of comments u got, would be par to what i would get.

This forum just isnt there in respects to XS and there Intel section.

People are still learning how to walk here, vs, the 50m dash over at XS.

Dont get me wrong, i think you did a good job, u shifted cores, to see which are better, this is actually what the pro's do.

Your OC methodology is on the dot, but people here dont know that methodology and will shoot you for doing the correct stuff as wrong.

:D

Very true. Just thought some people over here might like to be introduced to some of the extreme stuff.

Thank you

By the way Slappa I found the LN2 and DICE runs fascinating and this was cool as well.

Actually I haven't done an LN2 run yet. A dice run with a pot designed for LN2 yes...I think you got mixed up :D

Thanks man they were fun

Ah, that's probably why I feel like I can relate to you so well...I was there once myself, it was back in the 486 days but nevertheless I can appreciate and understand your "youthful" exuberance if you'll allow me to make every effort to pay you a compliment.

I too went into engineering (materials science to be exact) with the specific agenda of becoming one of those guys who makes it possible for CPU's to become faster every year.

I salute you and your aspirations

PS - it IS every bit as cool and exciting as you think it might be (working in this industry). I wish you all the best in your drive to get into it

I appreciate it man.

This stuff just gets me excited. Hopefully one day I'll see myself at AMD.

Its good to heard that it's cool and exciting, exactly what I'm hoping for!

PS - I'm using my blog as an extra curricular activity

lol.. i assume your trying to go for vendor level sponsoring.

Tell me shed some light on this area.

1. Its not easy.
2. Its 90% Luck and Fiscial season on the accounting books.
3. Its about marketing @ the time.
4. Its once again Luck.
5. Yes its all on who you know!

Another thing... when i started.. i remember the OC king's being Young.. around 18-25.... this isnt the same anymore.

There all OLD... my age now, and not the age back then.

LOL... this area is shifting more professional, then the joy luck fun it used to be.

So things are a ton harder now that its matured somewhat, then what it used to be.

I've already made a bit of ground, and had a fair share of luck. Keeping in mind that if I do get things... I am just going for personal bests, not advertising. No one told me to advertise anything. Reviews that I do stay on review sites most of the time, not in forums. I won't link but take a look at my blog and especially my article about Austin Texas/AMD. I'm half way there.

First let me say I am sorry I first used the word "spammer" I mean marketer.

Slappa, now that you have explained you methodology, and aigo piped in, I think I understand whats up here. But instead of us figuring out that you disabled cores, etc... I would ask (not demand) that you be right up front with your methodology, that you are disabling cores, and what you said above.

That would have cleared up a LOT. So now lets just get back to the thread.

HOWEVER, I do think most people here are more concerned with a good 24/7 stable overclock, and you said 4 ghz is it, and thats exactly what I have !

I am just used to posting on XS and OCN where they will see that CPU-z screen and right off the bat understand that I disabled cores. I now realize I was a bit ignorant to think that everyone has that sort of knowledge of this OC method

It's not common around here to say the least.

I wouldn't state it as being a case of folks here not knowing about the OC method though, but more the case that it is so rarely done with the overclocks talked about here that most people just assume you are talking about an all-cores-enabled OC unless you go to the trouble of explicitly stating otherwise.

XS is the opposite of course, everyone assumes you disabled cores unless you explicitly state you left them all enabled.

True. Mistake on my part then. from now on I'll state any questionable aspects of my posts before I go on

how can something work @ 0 Degree's kelvin?

Zero Point Energy? :D

I want a ZPM or as they call it in star trek, a quantum torpedo!
Seeing as all matter stops moving at 0 Kelvin, the CPU would technically still be "running". It would be like having your system on "pause". Once the temperature went back up to 1 Kelvin, the CPU would "un-pause" and start crunching data once again.:thumbsup:

I just noticed... First, all 29 of 29 are on this one CPU. Also, he is disabling 2 or even 3 of the 6 cores just to get a high OC. What BS ! Thats the kind of stuff people over at XS do. We here at anandtech like CPU's we can actually use, overclocks that are stable 24/7.

At least thats the way I see it.
That's not a fair characterization of XS! People do post crazy suicide runs but most people also have 24/7 OCs, and I haven't really seen people disable off cores. There was an unfortunate trend of people disabling HT for a while which I thought was stupid.
And I guess my point is that I'm on both forums and so are a lot of other people so I don't think the userbases are all that different, the XS people are just willing to push it a little farther with risky and almost insane things, but even then a lot of that only happens in certain subforums.

Wow this thread went south quick then seemed to have rebounded good job mods.

To the OP congrats regardless of how you achieved it.

And to the other guy saying -15 is cold depends on where you live bub.

I live in canada and those are seasonal winter temps that -15 might not even include the Windchill ( some might not even know what that is).

It gives us a natural advantage with overclocking :p

I have a winter overclock and a summer overclock that varies based on ambient temps.

I know Mark can readily defend himself, but I will just chime in and say that my interpretation of what Mark was speaking to is that over at XS it is neither rare nor uncommon for OC'ing enthusiasts to do suicide runs, disable cores (AMD) or HT (Intel), and run simplistic benches (SPi 1M stable y'all! w00t!) whereas in this particular CPU forum those kinds of OC'ing escapades really are rather rare and really are quite uncommon.

I don't think he is imagining the differences between the two forums, maybe he's just overstating it a skosh out of sake of expediency. This is DC time of year (winter) and he's got a lot on his mind with gearing up for that.
