Hey guys

Taking advantage of winter, I just broke 5GHz with cold air on my 1090T.

Enjoy

So are all 6 cores running at this speed or just 1?

I've heard before that these AMD chips really like to be cool.

Is it prime stable at that speed?

Wow that's cold, but don't negative temperatures have any effects on the CPU just as higher temperatures would?

Outside of dealing with condensation, almost no problems with cold cpus. There are cold bugs out there with motherboards and gpus most frequently, but not that often. Chillers are pretty "common" and while LN2 is expensive, it does work....giving quite high OC's.

Actually, I've heard that Intel CPUs can have trouble with extremely cold temps. The AMD chips can run all the way down to 0 kelvin. It has something to do with the SOI process or something.

0 Kelvin is when all the particles in matter stop moving so there is no way that is true.

1.6v, this is stupid.

Theres no way it would be prime stable. This is the very edge of stability for 1 core out of the whole chip (the best core). Yes it is only on one core for a few reasons

-This is a realistic result for retail Phenom II's, all 6 cores are not balanced, meaning some are better and worse then others. with a 6 core suicide the worst cores drag down the whole chip
-1.6V gave me the edge for the validation, I could have run it lower, but I wouldnt have gotten a validation (too unstable)
-I am simply performing a result that many users could replicate. -4C is not that cold for cpu temp, and all 6 cores would never be capable of doing 5GHz at this temp even with the best chips out there.

Ya know, its really getting tiring that you post about the same overclock on the same chip so many times.

Is this spamming ? because if you keep it up, it can be considered spamming.

Awesome overclock well done! How cold is it where you are? I managed to get my old E8400 to 4.7Ghz when it was -20 outside. It's great fun!!

Are u serious? This is the cpu & overclocking forum or no? I don't understand some of the hostility from some of the members of this forum. If you don't like a thread, don't read it. No need to dis people.

Good job slappa! I like seeing your results, gives me motivation to build another rig so I can join the fun!

I don't mean to call you out but you've had some questionable posts as a mod lately.

I have like 6 systems too, if I list them all can I be a mod? Just kidding.

In all fairness and on a more serious note, this is the overclocking forum.

First, Mod callouts are never acceptable, ever.
