Nice. I was thinking of going to a Tmo plan because I'd been running out of data. Not so much anymore.

As a BYOP customer, you will receive 5GB of high‑speed data* on your next refill date. Now you can enjoy 5GB of high‑speed data with your worry‑free Auto‑Refill service.
Do not worry, no further action is required on your part - just enjoy!
*5GB High Speed, 64KBPS thereafter
Thanks for bringing your phone to Straight Talk; where you get more of what you deserve today!

I got the text today.

I bet you it isn't 64kBYTESps, I bet it's 64kBITSps.

edit: according to email fineprint it's 64kbps

Is their high speed capped? I mean the actual speed like Cricket does, not the 5gb part.

Nice. My auto-renewal comes up today. Perfect timing. I've never come close to the cap, but my wife has gone over and been throttled.

I've had Cricket and seem to remember it was capped at around 7 or 8Mbps...basically H+ speeds. Just did a speedtest on ST and got 22Mbps (4Mbps up).

no.

and I don't think Cricket does either anymore.

Can you cite a source? Really interested if this is the case. Top speed and latency is the major differentiator between Cricket and GoPhone. If this goes away then besides the support there's no reason for us to suggest GoPhone to anyone.

My daughter streams video on my phone and our iPad using my hotspot....it ends up burning through 7-10GB/month...on a vacation, she was on the iPad on a 10 hour drive and I hit 22GB that month...it's hard for me to leave Verizon Unlimited. :D

I know. I still use a Verizon unlimited plan myself. My wife is on Straight Talk.
With this added data, I was like "...hmmm...". But I just finished this month with 12Gb data used. No way I could make it with 5Gb. I think 10 would be my minimum.

8mbits aught to be enough for anybody

answer: no. check howardforums

That's exactly why I asked. I'm a regular on HoFo and people over there are adamant about the speed difference between the two. If it's true that Cricket doesn't throttle anymore, it would be a huge blow to the GoPhone corner (yes, they troll each other all the time over there :)).

As far as whether 8 Mbps (max, if you're lucky) is enough, I'm sure it probably is for most people. I'm currently not with either, but I have experienced first hand GoPhone's 60+ Mbps speed. If I had to choose I'd never go back to what will effectively be a tenth of that for a few bucks less a month. No way.

I wonder what Verizon will do to us eventually to get us off the unlimited plans.
