niether, both are entirely too expensive and dont offer enough performance gain to justify not buying a 9800np/9800pro/5900/5900u

Yeah- I still think a plain 9700np is the best price/performance value you'll find right now.

XT, and pretty much all reviews agree. [ H ]'s review of the 5950 showed some particularly large performance deficits in newer games, and the XT has better AA quality (and AA will always be enabled on a card that fast).

9800 XT, its actually fully DX9 compatible. Reaslistically tho, neither at this point in time. I'll wait until ATi and Nvidia launch their next gen chips next year.

The 5950 Ultra.....Its faster in the games that I play plus I don't see my self playing Half Life 2 or Doom 3 anytime soon.

The 9800 is "playable" in the today stuff and as well better than FX line for future stuff wich makes a better purchase i think .

Well, if I had the money (ie I was a millionaire) I'd pick up the 5950 because I already have a 9800NP @ beyond XT speeds, so I wouldn't mind tinkering around with what the competition has.

I know its playable in todays stuff, but the games I play the 5700 Ultra almost gives the 9800XT a run for its money and totally slaughters the 9700pro. ATi still can grasp OpenGL, and 75% of games I play are OpenGL

Judging on the benchmarks on the newly fall release games, I don't think any of those 300-500 dollar FX cards are worth it. Not unless you want to update drivers and patch games until Nvidia finally catches up to today's standards, I see no point in not wanting to just buy the simpler card, the 9800.

I also agree with shady, both the 5950u and 9800xt are just too much $$$ for their performance increase over their counter parts. You would be buying them for the worthless point increase in benchmark programs like 3dmark.

Guys could u read the whole sentence before acting like complete dorks. The 5700 Ultra gives the 9800XT a run for its money IN THE GAMES THAT I PLAY!!!!! I've never seen the 9800XT beat the 5950 in Jedi Academy or Practically any OPENGL game.

Yeah, but only a sucker would buy a 5700U when a 5900 sells for the same price. ;)
