5850 for a 4870x2

It can sometimes even outperform the GTX 295, and usually is only a hair behind.

Horse hockey. The 5850 is very inferior in performance and the 4870x2 even nudges out the 5870 in many ways. Are you some rep from the company trying to rip this guy off?

Sorry, I did not know the HD4870X2 actually performed that well!

there are 2 options:

The company gives you a card that's about the same value the card used to have or they give you a card that performs about the same that might be cheaper.

In the first case they should indeed give you a HD5870 at least and else they should give you a HD5850. HD5850 > HD4870X2 in alot of newer games.

I would get the HD5850 and overclock it.

The HD 4870X2 is often quite faster than the HD 5850, it only can be outperformed in low resolutions, heavily overclocked or when there's scaling issues.

Just get the HD 5850 and sell it, and pay the difference for the HD 5870, just in case that it takes forever to solve the issue.
