If you read the thread I posted ,you would see that the fully unlocked pny gtx 465 to a gtx 470 overclocks just fine. Then by using a gtx 480 bios for better voltages they overclock great. 800 core or more.

First off, I'm talking about AMD CPUs.

Second, That pny 465 is not a production 465. It is a full on 470 with a 465 bios. I have no doubts it overclocks as well as a 470.

Can someone explain what is the motivation to sell GTX 470 with GTX 465 bios to then be unlocked to GTX 470 with a bios flash/utility? Why not just sell the GTX 470 cheaper?

Just go with the top-end single GPU of your brand of choice (5870 or GTX480) and save yourself the trouble of having to deal with microstuttering and roller coaster Crossfire/SLI scaling depending on game.

You will be able to run everything currently out in the market with max settings (or just fine in the case of Metro 20XX).

Cause then they would have to reduce the price of the 465, which is probably their best seller right now. I honestly don't know.

These units were primarily meant for first-wave reviewers and early adopters, likely because they would notice unlockability.

No, they are on sale at newegg right now, the PNY version.
These are the ones unlocking to full gtx 470's.

ANd there is another non U.S. company selling them , I think its called "Point of view". These are also unlocking to full gtx 470's.

Other reference cards are hit and miss.

Asus cards are supposed to unlock the shaders only, they even bundle the software to do it. :)

but you can flash your reference gtx 465 with a ASUS bios and use the ASUS utility to try and unlock it.

Because the 470 inventory is not selling like they would like perhaps and they don't want to drop the rsp below 5850 level?

There's a reason the GTX 465' and 470's aren't moving and have to be sold below the minimum advertised price. 5850's are available for ~$260 with cashback over at TigerDirect, and compete with the GTX 470's and 480's (when overclocked) for much less money. On top of that, they run cooler, quieter, and use much less power. Drivers, multi-GPU functioning, etc. is all marketing bullshit, and you'll hear it from both camps. Multi-GPU has issues on both sides, due to the intrinsic flaws in the techonologies surrounding it. Since both companies do it largely the same way, they both have the same problems. All in all, considering that the high-end is so close in performance but not in price, and the NVIDIA parts are generally unimpressive, I find it difficult to recommend anything GF100 based.

Please, show me these figures, or is this an educated guess?

Do you relize there has been 2 gtx 470's in the past 2 weeks for 284$ shipped without rebate or cash back?
Mabe the price war is comming?

Econ 101 - companies don't sell products for less because they're your palsy-walsy.

Exactly. AMD probably held NVIDIA's foot to the fire long enough that they're folding. Which is great news for all of us.

Nvidia developed the code, so they won't let Eidos drop the vendor block. You know this, yet you ignore it? I am starting believe you are a very good troll as nvidia also had a problem with drivers frying cards (disabled fans lol).

Also don't start that it is nvidia's code, they can do w/e they want with it. Ati should then be able to do whatever they want with all they code they developed, so why should nvidia get a free lunch? Also, the code works perfectly, so there is no reason why Ati can't use it.

Still, you sidestepped the issues I brought it up in the other post.

1. They are both over 60 fps in mins, why does it matter then about this game?
2. They didn't use the hack which works, to equalize settings.

You know, I just dont get how people expect intellectual property (nvidia code) to be available to any Tom Dick an Harry?
ATi was lazy...end of story!
