I can't tell the difference between 40 and 60fps.
exactly. every game is different too and some dont feel smooth no matter how high the framerate is while others are just fine at 30-40fps. same thing with AA. some games need a lot to look good while others can get by with none so I just take it on a game by game basis.

well i just need a very good advise, from what i've read it would be a good choice to have the 5850 because if I were to plan for a 22" LCD then the games I want to play will still be playable given that I could max out the settings...
and also because I consider my budget (still saving) for a good bang for the buck video card...

I guarantee you that I can take a game that you were getting 60fps in but you had no framerate counter and then told you game was capped at 30fps you would say yeah it felt sluggish. lol. 90% of this 60fps stuff is just in your head. now competitive multiplayer I can understand but the average single player game is not a big deal.

The OP is running a Phenom II X4 @ 3.2 GHz... he's not going to constrain a 5850 and his minimum framerates should be determined by the GPU and not his particular CPU.
Of course everything is just a general statement, and everything I said applies to most of the games on the market. You might be able to find some outliers, but that doesn't make you right or prove your point. The dude likes to max out all of his games. This statement is pretty important. In fact I'd say it's the most important statement he made.
In every game I've played, I can easily spot the difference between 40 and 60 FPS. Now I'm not going to be able to tell you the exact framerate at the exact moment in a game, but I can tell when a game becomes choppy at lower framerates and when it becomes extremely smooth at 60 (or above) framerates. If you have games which are choppy at 60 FPS, then you best better provide some data for us to analyze. This meaning tell us what game it was and what hardware you were using, because what you're saying goes severely against the grain.
If you're going to say 90% of the 60fps stuff is in my head, then I'm going to say 90% of the things you post are exaggerated bull. You're way too focused on resolution constraints and CPU bottlenecks.

I am being realistic. 1440x900 is a very low res and there is not one single game that couldnt be played smoothly at that res with a card like the 4890 which the 5770 should be just as fast as. yes his cpu is good but running a card like the 5850 at that low res it would give up quite a bit in some games compared to an i7. not that it would be a big issue but he wants the best card for the money for his current setup and if the 5770 is priced right then that is it. if he is planning a larger monitor soon then by all means get the 5850. if you really consider that bad advice then i give up.
as for some games not feeling smooth even at higher framerates it is usually just the game engine. for example Fallout 3 had little hitches out side even when I was right at 50-60. in some games going to all low settings and getting massive framerates doesnt always fix the way some games "feel".

as my specs are listed below on my signature, which one of these cards would better perform?
is 5850 will be a bottleneck for my system? or is the 5770 will be much better?
your opinions will be appreciated =) just wanna clear my head before I buy my new card...

Either way it's a whole new world from your current onboard VGA... if your budget is tight and you don't plan to upgrade your monitor in a year or so you can probably get by a 5850 1GB just fine but I'd suggest rather adding that extra $100 now and get a 23-24" LCD upgrade for ~$200 in one of those crazy Christmas markdowns at Dell.![]()

He never said anything about the best card for the money. He wants the best card, and that card is the 5850. Besides we don't even know, for sure, how the 5770 will perform or what its price will be.
Hitching (microstuttering) is completely different than having a below 40 framerate. And those two games are not indicative of most games.

He doesn't want to "get by". He wants to max out his games as well as future games. He should get the fastest card he can reasonably afford. The rest of his system will not hold him back, especially when more demanding games start coming onto the market.

what the heck are you talking about? he has onboard video and it would be stupid to recommend a 5870 and really even a 5850 for 1440x900. those cards tear through games at 1920. hell even a current 4870 will max every game out there at 1440x900.

he's choosing between the 5770 vs 5850 and most leaked benchmarks on the 5770 says it's no faster than the current generation cards, most sites thinks the 5770 is overpriced than what it offers. you can get a comparablly performing dx10.1 part for about $50 less than it's asking price and the only advantage 5770 offers is dx11 and not more performance. the sweet spot and best buy for the money right now is either a lower priced but ubiquitous hd 4870/90s or the well priced hd5850 if you can find one.
