Hey Guys:

Well I am getting annoyed...

Went out and picked up a HD5770 from Microcenter. Put it in my below system, which contains an Epox 9NPA+Ultra socket 939 motherboard (oldie but goodie) and I get a No Signal system on my monitor. Can't get into BIOS, doesn't boot to Windows, nothing. I put in my old X1800XT video card and everything works fine.

The card does have power b/c the fan spins.

Any ideas???

Re seat the card and make sure your power connections are right.

If you still get no signal, I would take it back.

Yah, I did re-seat it twice and all connections were perfect. Still no dice. It might be because I have an older Nvidia Chipset trying to work with a modern ATI card...

This happened to me with two different XFX HD 5770s. Both times I thought there was a problem with the motherboard or the card. Everything would power up, but the monitor would stay in standby mode (not no signal - it knew there was a cable connected to something). Once this happened on a G31 motherboard, and once on a P965 motherboard.

Both times I tried switching DVI ports / cables, tried using DisplayPort or HDMI instead, and tried banging my head against the wall. BOTH TIMES the card randomly started "working" after I restarted 3-4 times. I have no idea if plugging in a different cable (such as HDMI) had anything to do with it, but something seemed to jump-start the card.

So, my suggestion is to try different combinations of things and see what works. Restart several times and see if anything changes. It's frustrating, and I don't know what causes it, but the fact that it happened with two nearly identical cards makes me wonder.

Hmm, thanks, and my version of the 5770 is the XFX as well...and you're right, my monitor does to to standby mode (it displays a message first that says no signal then goes to standby mode).

Very frustrating, to say the least, but I'll play with it some more and restart several times...

Very doubtful since I have 4870 card working fine with the same board,as others have stated double check all connections, make sure its fully seated ,also make sure your PSU is up to the job of powering it etc...

Try it in a different PC if possible to rule out it being faulty.

Ok guys, update on this. Read above - I originally tried a 5770 and it didn't work. Returned it and got a GTS250 (Nvidia) which is working fine. However I don't like the Nvidia products and went and bought a 4890, which is supposed to be better.

I put in the 4890 and I get a "no signal" message on my monitor and it goes into standby. However, the computer continues to boot and my speakers play the windows chimes when it loads into windows. Only my screen is black and I can't do anything. I'm curious to the poster above that had a 4870 working in the same motherboard if he encountered anything like this.

What do you guys think it could be? It's an old Nvidia chipset board and a new ATI card, could that cause the problem? An above poster had a 4870 working with the same board so I'd think a 4890 would work as well.

I've re-seated it multiple times. I have a 500W PSU (minimum required). All connections are stable.

Thoughts??? This is getting annoying!!

So even if you mash DEL to get into the BIOS after booting up, you still get no screen?

you plugged in the power for the video card obviously :)

You know it IS possible you got 2 bad cards. How unlikely I know but it IS possible.

Ok, here's the real kick in the shorts. I got it to work ONE time on a separate, old CRT monitor I had laying around. It randomly worked ONCE on that monitor, otherwise the same thing happened and the CRT went to standby. I couldn't get it to work on my flat panel monitor...

Also, when it doesn't work, I get three "beeps" in the format of beeeeeeep beeep beep...

Yeah that's no video error shows like your board doesn't like new video cards don't know.

Best option now is to find a friend who will let you stick one of those two cards in his machine.

That would appear to be the case...

I've already wasted enough time on it, no point of wasting anymore of yours.

Mem could you send me the links to the bios also? I'm also having similar problems with the exact same video card.
