57+C max load on a 650 cb0

i have a pIII 650 cb0 running at 650 w/1.65v right now due to heat...at idle its about 22c...but as soon as i play a game or run seti or something of the sort it instantly jumps to 57c and higher. i have a cuv4x and a alpha pep66 on it. as far as i can tell the connection between the two are fine but i can't for the life of me figure out why it gets so high

any advise?

You did use a thin layer of thermal paste on top of the CPU? If I remember correctly, the P3V4X reports CPU temp as being higher than it really is, and needs a Bios update to fix this. Maybe the CUV4X does too?

I'm beginning to think that it's how the internal diode reads the temp in the new cB0 stepping. I have a 500E and a newer 650E based on the cB0 core. I can install them the same exact way in my P3B-F, clock them to around the same speed (140x5=700 for the 500 and 110x6.5=715 for the 650), but for some reason the 650E reports a much higher CPU temp. The 500E at 700MHz stays around 44 degrees, while the 650E at 715MHz jumps to around 56 to 58 degrees.

My 700E@933 runs in the mid 50s when under load. This kind of blew me away when I first installed it. I don't know what's up but I'm beginning to notice a lot of people with the same experience. At first I wasn't going to clock it so high, thinking the heat would be a problem. But I decided to ignore the temperature and let the chip do it's thing. Heck, if I didn't have a temp monitoring utility, everything would be fine.
