Well it's not that noisy, just that I'd like to turn off the speaker.

I've tried moving the bar to speaker sound OFF, but that didn't do anything. I was in control panel, modems, properties, speaker volume, OFF.. but it still didn't turn off.

I don't know what's wrong, i've reinstalled drivers and fooled around, but is my last resort to cutting the small wire to the speaker on the modem?!?
 
is this US Robotics Sportster btw ?
What I personally would recommend is just to put some electrical tape on top of your modem's speaker and while it won't make things completely quite, it definetely will make them not as loud
