I have a Motorola SM56 PCI modem. Besides the fact that it is incredibly sloooooooow, it lags everything to hell whenever i conncect or disconnect. IT IS GONNA DIE.
What would you reccommend as a replacement? My friends say a USRobotics or 3Com which are now 2 seperate companies. Others say Dlink make fairly good modem and network cards.
WHAT SHOULD I DO????

If you have to stay with a dial-up connection, then I recommend 3Com. I've used their modems for years, and at least in my experience, they are as solid as they come. Of course, I'm sure USRobotics makes excellent modems too.

D-link makes good network cards; I can't speak for their modems.

OK, first 3com and USR are the same, and second, ANY external modem will be better then an internal one. (well within reason(must be 56K etc etc))

Before you decide to throw away your SM56, make sure that the latest drivers are installed. Motorola has version 83.17, and so does Swann . The new version has made a difference.

A cheap, yet good modem is the Diamond Supra Express 56i Pro, it has worked well for me, for about 2 years
