ok I have DSL at my home, but one of the machines in not connected to the network. My parents are not willing to let me run CAT5 in the home, and right now "we" dont have the extra $$$ to go wireless.

I was wondering if there were any good free 56K ISPs left? The machine is running Windows XP and the main reason it needs net access is to check email for my parents.

Also there is only one phone line in our home, and the DSL also runs off of this. We use filters so that we can use the phones at the same time as the DSL. Will I need to hook the modem up to the filter or just straight into the wall? Also will the 56k modem be able to connect while the DSL modem is running...

Have you considered one of those cheesy network systems that use either your existing phone or electrical wiring for networking? I think they're good for 1MB links or so.

No I haven't concidered that. I was just looking for something "free", so I could setup this box when I get home.

I am eventually going to add this machine to the DSL line somehow, which will involve Wireless or one of the phone networks. Parents just dont want me to run CAT5 in the attic... :(
