I use Ulead Video Studio/Media Studio Pro. If you have money, you could use Adobe Premier. Nothing came bundled with your fire wire card if you bought one?
 
Free capture program? Not that I know of. Sounds interesting, I'd like to know as well. Maybe in the VIDEO forum, eh?
